Which School Board to Choose? In this day and age, there needs to be more clarity among parents regarding which board to choose and which not to choose. Since this is the biggest concern when I go to meetings, I am sharing my feedback so that parents can make a more informed decision. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) The emphasis is on core subjects like science, maths, social studies and languages. The curriculum has a strong theoretical approach and the whole idea behind this is to help students gain a sound knowledge of these different concepts on core subjects to help them attempt professional courses and entrance exams in the streams of science and maths. ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) It aims to create successful learners who enjoy learning and encourages understanding and application of knowledge to real-life experiences. Besides focusing on concepts in maths and science, ICSE also offers an equal weightage to languages, arts and humanities. Students are encouraged to pursue community service and develop a sense of responsibility towards the community. The holistic curriculum focuses on English and other languages, mandatory community service, and the encouragement to pursue extra-curricular activities. State Boards The Ministry of Education permits each state to design and develop its syllabus and also conducts a standard examination. With an in-depth localised approach, the State Board equips students with deep knowledge and understanding of their region besides the country and the world. International Baccalaureate (IB) The IB curriculum motivates students and helps students develop critical thinking and research skills that are crucial for excelling in college and beyond. Cambridge IGCSE A wide range of subjects allows students to find combinations that suit their interests and aptitudes. Cambridge IGCSE helps improve performance by developing skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem-solving. The curriculum at Cambridge is meant to be flexible, allowing students to adapt their studies to better align with their passions and skill sets. It is also critical for parents to keep track of their child’s overall performance in a particular board. Whenever a child faces a challenge or wants to try something different based on their passion, interests, and life goals, they can switch boards and the ideal grade is 8th class. Our children's generation faces a constantly evolving world, making it difficult to predict what the world will look like when they graduate. No matter what the board, students should be taught to keep an open mind, inquire, and be prepared to take on challenges and come up with real-world solutions. #CBSE #Cambridge #IGCSE #IB #school #students #StateBoard #future #generation #education #NCERT #SchoolBoard #India #curriculum #whichboardtochoose #children
