Can any of my nurses see where the ethical concern of negligent uses of "AI" in healthcare is rapidly arriving. my analogy is grim. there are responsibilities that come with everything and anything. CHALLENGES FACED BY THE LEGAL SECTOR IN THE USE OF AI APPLICATIONS Despite the effectiveness and efficiency of AI Systems, they sometimes create false information, fabricate precedents, declare living people dead, and produce fabricated claims. Occasionally, it distorts facts, makes extensive use of skewed data, and renders discriminating judgments, thereby producing erroneous outcomes. Some AI systems can operate as ‘black boxes’, making it difficult to understand their reasoning. This lack of transparency and explainability can pose challenges in critical cases, such as legal matters, where accountability and understanding are crucial. A lawyer recently got into trouble for relying only on AI-generated material without due diligence. Thus, anyone using an AI system should be able to confirm whether the information given is accurate or not. Colorado has enacted a law requiring those who develop or deploy "high-risk" AI systems to take measure to avoid algorithmic discrimination. What makes an AI system "high-risk"? Under the new law, an AI system is "high-risk" if it makes, or is a substantial factor in making, a consequential decision. What's a "consequential decision"? Those that have a material legal or similarly significant effect on the provision or denial to any Colorado resident of, or on the cost or terms of, education enrollment or opportunity, employment, financial or lending services, essential government services, healthcare services, housing, insurance, or legal services. For most practical purposes, "hallucinations" can't be ignored. Yes, there are strategies (from training data, to model fine tuning, to prompt engineering) to minimise inaccurate outputs, but a confident "bullshit" in (say) a medical diagnosis is not acceptable even in small doses. Apart from human verification, which may not always be feasible, what strategies are being used in practice? The main strength of GenAI seems to be quickly understanding something. In the world of law, this seems to disproportionally benefit outside counsel, plaintiffs firms, and regulators. The main strength of cognitive AI seems to be scaling something you already understand. Which disproportionally benefit inhouse teams that sit close to business stakeholders and close to the data.
