“Enhancing Sustainability in PLA Membrane Preparation through the Use of Biobased Solvents”
https://lnkd.in/dum3a4EK
#Ultrafiltration (UF) #membranes are considered one of the most promising separation methodologies because of their cost-effectiveness, simplicity of equipment layout, and high efficiency. Commercial UF membranes are generally based on synthetic nonbiodegradable polymers, including polyethersulfone (PES) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). Our work shows the choice of solvent, in addition to the type of polymer, is crucial to making the entire membrane production process truly #sustainable. #PLA UF membranes were prepared via #NIPS by using, for the first time, three different #nontoxic, #biobased #solvents: #Cyr, #DMI, and #EL. The composition of the casting solutions was varied in terms of polymer content as well as the presence of Plu as an amphiphilic pore former agent.
