Day 8: Embracing the Unknown – The Realities of Building a Startup from Scratch “Every step forward is a leap of faith—and that’s the thrill of building something from the ground up.” Today, I’m going to be candid about one of the most intense parts of my journey as a founder of CHUMS AI: navigating the unknown. When you set out to build something truly new, like virtual humans that go beyond automated responses to genuinely understand people, there’s no roadmap. And that’s both exciting and terrifying. There were days when it felt like every answer led to more questions. We’d celebrate a breakthrough in emotional recognition one week, only to realize the next that we needed to refine our approach because users wanted even more warmth and responsiveness. Developing tech that feels like it “gets” you on a personal level wasn’t just a coding challenge; it pushed us to rethink and rebuild, again and again. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of resilience. Every setback, every late night, every iteration tested our vision and our commitment. There were moments when I wondered if we could actually make CHUMS AI feel human. But each challenge reminded us why we’re doing this—to bring empathy, connection, and companionship into people’s lives through AI. Along the way, I’ve realized that building a startup isn’t just about technology; it’s about the grit to keep pushing when the path isn’t clear and the passion to make every interaction count.
