Money is tight, but I'm super stoked to make a micro-loan for entrepreneurs with climate-friendly solutions creating sustainable food systems with the help of KIVA. KIVA is a trusted entity that supports entrepreneurs through crowd-funded loans. I chose to support Kuli Kuli because they are working on permaculture projects in Africa using appropriate trees for the climate and nutrient density. This is--an investment with a triple pay back, people, planet and payback of my original loan amount. Please join me by investing as little as $25.00 or as much as you want. It's a win-win! #environment #equity #permaculture #climatesolutions

Kheyti was born after conversations with thousands of smallholder farmers affected by #climatechange. There are 100 million smallholder farmers in India and 500 million across the world. These farmers work hard all year long but have no control over their incomes because of external climate risks, made worse every year due to climate change. Simply put, for smallholder farmers, hard work does not pay. Co-founder Kaushik Kappagantulu '17 started Kheyti to change that. Their greenhouse helps farmers double their incomes; protects those incomes from climate risks like heat, rain, pests, and hail; and makes their farming more sustainable. They bundle end-to-end services with the greenhouse to ensure that farmers can adopt the technology in the right way, making farmers' hard work pay. --- The Tamer Fund for Social Ventures provides seed grants to #nonprofit, for-profit, and hybrid early-stage Columbia University-affiliated #social and #environmental ventures that are solving critical problems around the world. EMPOWERING AFRICAN FARMERS THROUGH VILLAGE SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATIONS #VSLA #AGRIFINANCE #COOPERATIVE FARMING #SELFHELP GROUP #LIVELIHOOD In many rural communities across Africa, access to formal banking services is limited, leaving farmers with few options to save money or obtain loans for agricultural investments. To address this challenge, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) have emerged as a powerful tool for financial inclusion and empowerment. VSLAs are community-based microfinance groups where members pool their savings and provide loans to each other. These associations operate on principles of trust, solidarity, and mutual support, making them particularly suitable for farmers who often face similar financial challenges. Research by Mersland and Strøm (2010) highlights the effectiveness of VSLAs in improving financial access and promoting savings among rural populations. By mobilizing small amounts of savings from members, VSLAs create a local source of capital that can be used for agricultural inputs, such as seeds, fertilizers, and tools. Moreover, VSLAs foster a culture of entrepreneurship and self-reliance among farmers, enabling them to invest in income-generating activities beyond agriculture. According to a study by Doss and Kieran (2018), VSLAs empower women in particular, by providing them with a platform to save, borrow, and invest in their businesses. Village Savings and Loan Associations play a crucial role in advancing the economic prospects of farmers in Africa. By promoting financial inclusion and facilitating access to capital, VSLAs empower rural communities to thrive and prosper. References: - Mersland, R., & Strøm, R. Ø. (2010). Dear network, Build a trustworthy relationship between foundations, donators, companies, CSR programs is critical for a non-profit organization. 'When the roots of a tree begin to decay, it spreads death to the branches.' YEGO Global in Rwanda : 🚜 Farmers often struggle with market access owe to logistical and price barriers. Providing efficient last-mile delivery solutions, what a pain killer in african-smallholder farming business! 🎯 The Challenge: Poor infrastructure and limited transportation options hinder farmers from accessing the market and bargain a fair price. 📦 The Solution: Yegomoto leverages a network of motorbike riders to collect produce from farms and deliver the end consumers or wholesalers in urban areas. 🌍 The Impact: Generate hope and income for smallholder farmers who could not even sell their production, tackling the food security aspect. - 🔗 Some are non-profitable pains to a business but economically beneficial to a sector. These pains are foundations’ The reason why, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation mentionned: "Connecting farmers to markets is vital for improving livelihoods and boosting economic growth" 🔑 To generate trust, Let’s have in comments a conversation on my KSF choice : « remove highly economic and/or social impactful pains. » - #LastMileDelivery #Rwanda #SmallholderFarmers #AgriTech #MarketAccess #FoodSecurity #ImpactInvesting
