🌟 Keeping Children Safe, Helping Families Thrive: A Call to Action 🌟 I’ve had the opportunity to review the policy paper titled "Keeping Children Safe, Helping Families Thrive," and I believe it is a crucial step forward in our collective mission to protect and empower the most vulnerable members of our society. It emphasises the importance of creating safe environments for children while also providing the necessary support to families. It highlights that safeguarding is not just about intervention; it's about prevention, support, and collaboration. We need to ensure that families have access to resources that enable them to thrive, which in turn benefits the children. Key takeaways from the policy paper: 1. Holistic Support: Acknowledging that children's safety is intertwined with the wellbeing of their families. We must invest in community resources that support both. 2. Collaboration Across Services: Encouraging partnerships between various agencies to create a comprehensive support network for children and families. 3. Empowerment and Education: Providing families with the tools and knowledge they need to foster safe and nurturing environments. #ChildWelfare #Safeguarding #FamilySupport #ResidentialCare #PolicyAdvocacy #ChildrenFirst

Family Resource Centers and community hubs make a big difference! In neighborhoods with these centers, child protective investigations can decrease significantly. It’s about meeting families where they are and providing support close to home. New safeguarding guidance has been introduced, offering important updates for those involved in child protection: - Education will not become a safeguarding partner but will be listed as a relevant agency. - Families with children under a Child Protection plan must seek approval from local authorities before home education. - A Single Unique Identifier for each child will improve the sharing of safeguarding information. - New legislation and a review of "Working Together to Safeguard Children" include statutory guidance for kinship care. - Increased oversight and accountability for children's homes. More government investment in children’s social care is encouraging, but we're eager to see how far it goes! 👀 #childprotection #safeguarding #socialwork #socialcare

Public Service Week may officially be over however, we appreciate the devotion our teams provide to our communities every day. Our Family & Children's Services employees continue to serve 24 hours a day, 7 days a week which is partially why this post comes a little late. The employees in Family and Children's Services are partnering with parents and families to ensure child safety and promote healthy families. This requires staff to be on call for emergencies to stabilize potentially dangerous situations and keep children safe from harm. We also work collaboratively with local agencies to ensure the best possible treatment for our families so they can overcome obstacles and reunite as healthy families. #GovPossible #publicservicerecognitionweek #mendocinocountysocialservices #mendocinocounty #greatteam #careersthatmatter #lovehwatyoudo #wehavethebestteam #helpingcareers #socialservices #lovewhereyouwork #governmentjobs

During #DevelopmentalDisabilitiesAwarenessMonth, the National Runaway Safeline is highlighting the urgent need for foster and adoptive families for children with special needs. Are you aware that NRS can assist young individuals and their families in accessing essential services to support their well-being? To achieve this, we collaborate with specialized organizations, encouraging them to join our database and engage with youth-focused entities in their communities, thereby enhancing the continuum of care. If you're looking for support, NRS is here for you 24/7 at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or 1800RUNAWAY.org. If your organization is not part of our national database, you can complete Memorandum of Understanding online at https://buff.ly/3x6RKY4.

Did you know that connection meetings around a cup of coffee has great potential to strengthen collaboration between child protection role-players? At Ezrah, we are so proud of our dedicated child protection stakeholders who participate in our quarterly child protection meetings. At these empowering events, mandates are shared and best practice models are built for serving vulnerable children. We want to give special thanks to Col. Jonkers and Col. Dampies from the Western Cape FCS, Forensic Social Work Department, who shared the FCS Forensic Social Work mandate with our group on the 10th of April. Here is the value of these working group meetings in the words of Lee-Anne Jones (Social Worker): “The fact that we can share with one another in clarifying our roles within the sector to find best practices in helping the child, allows us to strengthen relationships and understanding among stakeholders.” A huge shoutout to the delegates from the following organisations for their enthusiastic participation in this event: Stellcare Stellenbosch, Dept. of Social Development Paarl, Khula Development Group, Dept. of Education Cape Winelands, FCS (SAPS) Paarl and Stellenbosch, Childline WC, Kin Culture NPC, Dept. of Health Cape Winelands, RealDeal Trust, Thuthuzela Care Centre (Paarl and Stellenbosch) and Spieel Collective. Together we can create resilient spaces where children matter 🤝 #ezrah #ezrahctd #community #traininganddevelopment #childprotection #childrenmatter #communitydevelopment #leadershipdevelopment #empowerthenextgeneration #together

There's no doubt that Victoria's network of family services plays an extremely important role in supporting vulnerable children & families right across the State - we have much to be proud of & the people who work in this area deserve much greater recognition. But preventing escalation to child protection or youth justice will take a lot more than just investing more in these services. In fact - coincidentally or not - the data suggests that the rate of escalation of kids in care & involved with child protection has actually increased alongside increased investment in family services. Reasons why need to be better understood. Victoria is not alone in dealing with this problem - this exponential growth is happening everywhere. The data suggests we definitely need more investment & action in something - probably including more family services - but we also need to be investing in different things & delivering them differently. Figuring out exactly what & how is the hard part - but a first step has to be openly examining what we are already doing. #familysupport #earlyintervention #evidence #innovation
Early intervention from our family services sector is key to protecting our children from harm. Strong family supports will keep families together, keep kids connected to their community, and help them live their best lives. The Centre advocates for the earliest possible help for children and families in need to prevent escalation to child protection or youth justice. Family services are critical in preventing harm to children. In The Age today: https://loom.ly/dmQhRi8
