Last week, Innovate UK Business Growth specialists in the Midlands attended 'Data Centre of the Future', an event hosted by the National Data Centre Academy based in Leamington Spa. The National Data Centre Academy (NDCA) are transforming data centre training with hands-on, real-world learning. John Booth, Managing Director, highlighted the skills shortage within the data centre industry. Particularly, the need for specific modules in areas such as sustainability and compliance, to be included in the curriculum. The academy will be the first of its kind to deliver this type of education, with facilities like training server rooms, to enable students to hone their practical skills. The keynote was delivered by Ian Wainwright from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) who echoed that data centres are now considered to be Critical National Infrastructure and are a key driver of economic growth. The Government recently announced a new AI Action Plan backed by £14 billion investment. Therefore, the department welcomes the NDCA’s establishment to help provide that training data centres need. It was a jam-packed agenda full of networking and insightful sessions from industry experts The DCA - Data Centre Alliance, Green Software Foundation, Circular Economy Consultants Ltd, Dycem Contamination Control, Relode LucidCatalyst, ICHRC Ltd, Gensler and @techUK. Including Innovate UK Business Growth clients Adelan Limited and Green Cloud Computing. Innovate UK Business Growth Delivery Manager @Chris Woodward and Innovation & Growth Specialist @Fernando Centeno top and tailed the event by showcasing how Innovate UK's business growth and scaling service can provide tailored one-to-one support for innovative businesses that drive economic growth within the industry. The NDCA are hosting a big tent event on the 26th March, so please do follow them for more details. #DataCentres #AI #STEM #Innovation

Changes in the UK Government's digital landscape! Three key organizations—the Government Digital Service (GDS), Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO), and Incubator for AI (i.AI)—are moving from the Cabinet Office to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). Announced by Peter Kyle, DSIT's Secretary of State, during London Tech Week, this move signifies a strategic shift aiming to place DSIT at the heart of the UK’s digital transformation efforts. The objective is clear: leverage digital, data, and technology to enhance public services across sectors like healthcare, policing, and education. Kyle emphasized, “Britain will not fully benefit from the social and economic potential of science and technology without government leading by example. DSIT will act as a leader and partner across government, with industry and the research communities, to boost Britain’s economic performance and power up our public services.” What does this mean for the future of digital services in the UK and what are the potential benefits for citizens and public services? Let’s discuss! #DigitalTransformation #GovTech #Innovation #PublicServices #AI #DataScience #Leadership

Happy New Year I’m late for this now; it's already been two weeks since the year started. As all of you have already said, Happy New Year, fellows. So, yes, I’m late, but… here I am. 2025 will be the new year for data management too. New year for taking the right actions and improving the quality of your #data, #processes, and use of #technology. This year won’t be just a year of #DataGovernance, 2025 will be also a year of #DataSpaces and their Governance. 2024 set some basis for Data Spaces offering the set of rules and recommendations developed by some important communities like International Data Spaces Association (IDSA), Data Spaces Support Centre, datos.gob.es - Oficina del Dato, Gaia-X Hub España, BDVA - Big Data Value Association and for sure, how not to mention, T-Systems International and T-Systems Iberia. Data Space is not a new term, the community members have been working on developing blueprints and guidelines for years and years, but now time’s up. We will work together on creating more Data Spaces and ecosystems to guarantee everyone with right access to secure, good quality, and right data. To make this community stronger and prepare companies for the right maturity level with good Data Governance strategy. All together we will be a game changers 💪💪💪 Let’s go for 2025! Btw, this photo is from the FIRST Data Space Summit organized by #GAIAX Hub in Spain and variety of participants who shared their experience, knowledge and goals for Data Spaces and how it can change the world.
