Rodin's Thinker statue weighs roughly 2,000 pounds. Sculpted out of bronze and mounted on a stone pedestal. While this sculpture may be appeasing to look at it makes other wonder. How many Rodin Thinkers would it take to weigh similar to the TUR 800 with an 8.6" bore and 118" center distance? Could you imaging 12 of these sculptures lined up still not equaling the weight of (1) TUR 800 x 3000mm (24,250 pounds). The weight was designed into this lathe's monolithic bed for greater dampening characteristics while maintaining its superb ergonomics. Even the anchor of the cruise ship, Queen Elizabeth 2 weighed 24,900 pounds with the design to anchor the ship. An old way to judge a machine tool was to look at its weight. Some have competitively sized machines with almost half the weight and no updates this century. Weight does matter! #machinetools #CNClathes #oilandgas #turbines #manufacturing

Mastering the Craft: Preserving Antique Swords Restoring an antique sword is a delicate art that combines history, skill, and patience. Each blade holds unique craftsmanship and tells a story of the past, making careful restoration essential to preserving its beauty and value. The goal is to maintain its original character while protecting it from further wear or corrosion. A proper restoration involves cleaning the blade carefully, often using non-invasive methods that won’t harm the metal. It also requires attention to detail with materials like leather or wood on the hilt, where precise repairs can prevent future damage. Professional restorers use traditional techniques to ensure the sword retains its authenticity. Preserving antique swords is rewarding, allowing us to keep these artifacts alive for future generations. Whether you’re restoring for historical value or personal appreciation, the work adds lasting beauty to any collection and honors the legacy of these incredible weapons. #SwordRestoration #AntiqueSwords #BladePreservation #HistoricalWeapons #ArtOfRestoration #SwordCollector #RestoringHistory #WeaponCare #TimelessCraft #CollectorsItem #AntiqueRestoration #CulturalPreservation #SwordCare #RareSwords #HeritageConservation #VintageWeapons #ProtectHistory #RestorationSkills #CollectorEssentials #Craftsmanship

Harmonious reflections of elegant, graceful movement of arms, like a flowing transformation of time – is a metaphoric representation of finest and most clear reflections possibly seen in a marble. We took this as a right metaphor for its synchronized creativity just like a pure reflection of marble. I know platinum is very expensive, but I always thought that white gold is meant to be a non-tarnishing version of silver because of how common silver is compared to gold and platinum. It does make sense, however, that one would use a lower-cost material to imitate a higher-cost material. I may be a little biased; I never think of gold as a “less costly” material because of its well-established, international prevalence as a monetary standard, where I don’t hold platinum held in the same regard. Even our clientele, consisting of private collectors, designers, and museum professionals refer to our white gold finishes as ‘silver’ rather than ‘platinum.’ A few questions: What is the availability and price of platinum compared to silver? Are these metrics consistant throughout history? From a marketing standpoint, what kind of client will look at a white gold frame and think ‘platinum’ before ‘silver,’ or is that a connection that we, as the professional, should be making for our clients?
The art of gilding has evolved over thousands of years. At Lowy, our master gilders still use this traditional process to create exquisite gilt frames. A thin layer of 23 karat gold leaf is carefully applied over a frame prepared with many coats of gesso and bole to produce a finish that can be burnished to simulate the appearance and luster of solid gold. The use of white gold, originally developed to imitate platinum, is common today as a finish for contemporary frames.
