AHPA, in collaboration with the Australian Digital Health Agency, is working to ensure streamlined access and connection to digital health products (such as My Health Record). To help with this, AHPA has developed the Allied Health Digital Transformation Survey and will use the insights from this Data to inform change and digital adoption strategies, develop resources, training and education material to support the allied health sector. Day two of Medic East Africa 2024 was an inspiring deep dive into the future of primary healthcare in Africa. At the Primary Health Care Conference, experts highlighted the importance of innovation, collaboration, and patient-centered care in building resilient health systems. The Australian Digital Health Agency has cast a national spotlight on RDN’s innovative approaches to digital health in the National Digital Health Strategy 2023-2028, a five-year plan that sets the vision and pathway for Australia’s digital health future. Amongst six “innovation spotlights” featured, RDN was recognised for increasing access to multidisciplinary healthcare through digitally enhanced Outreach services; and Rural Health Pro was singled out for building rural health workforce capability. We are thrilled to be part of the MOH-led FHIR Implementation Guides Development Workshop, a collaborative effort to support the government's vision towards a standards-based digital health system. This workshop will lay the groundwork for standardized practices, customizing FHIR resources and building implementation guides for the Kenyan context for three select use cases namely 1. Billing and claims, 2. shared health records and referrals, 3. Surveillance and reporting. Why does this matter? At the core of the envisioned digital health superhighway is standards and interoperability. The Ministry and its partners have selected FHIR as the innovation to catalyze this vision of a standards-based health information exchange. Imagine a future where our health systems communicate effortlessly, improving patient care and outcomes. FHIR acts as our bridge to seamless health data exchange. Through this workshop, we are working to: -Develop  the first version of the Implementation Guides for priority use cases while identifying key FHIR resources and profiles for the Kenyan context which includes making extensions and customization for our setting-  - Lay the groundwork for FHIR-compliant HIE for Kenya  - Learning and exchanging ideas on the best practices towards implementing FHIR We envision a future where a citizen's health record follows them across the health system through the SHR, a future where health services received can be accurately billed and reimbursed through seamless data exchange. Last Thursday, We had the pleasure to speak about private sector engagement in health during the bi-weekly meeting of the World Health Organization's Joint Working Team for #PHC and #UHC. There was an agreement that when public and private sectors work in synergy for health outcomes, people and communities gain better access to the support they need to protect and improve their health and well-being. We already know that aligning private sectors efforts to national health goals: 1-  fosters greater innovation 2- improves healthcare access for everyone, not only for those who can afford it 3- strengthens health systems to face the challenges ahead. To this aim, the WHO Progression Pathway on the Governance of Mixed Health Systems has been developed as a decision support and capacity building tool to help members states align behaviours, capacities, and instruments to govern the public and private sectors as one.
