I have to tip my hat to the recruitment team for McCann Manchester. Recently, I applied for a position with them. The #Role itself did not have a salary displayed but, was super interesting and... who wouldn't want to work with McCann? Not only did one of the recruiters contact me very soon afterwards but they went one step further. After reviewing my portfolio and application they felt that I had more than enough experience for the position but, that because of this, the role may not have the budget for me. They then told me the budget for the role, asked me what my thoughts were and then stated, and I quote "I'd be happy to keep an eye out for more senior roles if this one isn't the right level". I don't wish to name the person mentioned as I have not asked their permission. However, I had to highlight this stellar level of candidate communication! At a time when hearing anything back is like the unicorn of #jobsearching, to get this level of openness and communication... well, BRAVO! #recruitment #communication

When interviewing for ad agency account management roles at the start of my career, I always said that one of my strengths was understanding how to work with creatives because I started out as a creative. At the time, I didn’t know how true those words were. Since starting Outerbox Agency, I’ve had my creatives trust me with vulnerable moments because they know I get it. My role isn’t just briefing creatives and reviewing work. Sometimes, it’s telling a creative that it’s time to step away from their computer because I can tell they’re burning out. Sometimes, it’s reassuring a creative to trust their intuition because I can tell they don’t believe in the work they’re showing me. Sometimes, it’s finding wiggle room in the timeline, because I understand that sometimes ideas just need an extra day to go from good to great. I think these parts are what I’m proudest of when I reflect on everything I do. When I say that my purpose is “helping people recognize their magic”, this is part of what I mean. I’m a midwife of ideas, and every moment that a creative realizes that they’ve delivered something special feels like a tiny trophy in my head. I’m so grateful that Outerbox lets me do this.

I truly believe in the adage that "what you do outside work is as important as what you do at work." Both aspects shape and influence each other, ultimately impacting the quality of who I am at work. Weird year right? By most accounts (for me, at least), it was as successful of a year as you would want it to be. A couple of weeks ago, my team launched sites for both TikTok AND their parent company, Bytedance. The beginning of the year saw the launch of a huge campaign for FDNY (dream client!). Also, my team did some amazing work celebrating ADT's 150th anniversary and the employees who have made that happen, past, present and future. NYU Langone has a very cool site coming. And last, but definitely not least, UCLA Health (Dream client #2 and AWESOME collaborators; just look at my profile pic) not only worked with my team on a full rebrand, but also worked together on multiple photo shoots, as well as a employee feature, interview/b-roll video initiative to highlight how amazing it is to work in their hospital system. Wow, that is a highlight reel, condensed into one year, right? Well, unfortunately, it came to an end a couple of weeks ago for both me, and a huge amount of people that took part in those awesome initiatives and beyond. Unfortunately, my previous agency decided to "move in a different direction" that let go of people above, below, and adjacent to me. It is what it is... Regardless, I'd love to talk with any team, or collaborator, that is interested. I not only bring my own skills in leading amazing teams that can deliver SOLID work that produces results, I am on the lookout to help the team members that also got let go to find their next role. With that said, I want to do a shoutout section. These people made everything above (and more) happen. DEFINITELY, in no particular order: Cynthia P. Laura Gosnell R. Last night, I went for ICON ball. It truly was a fascinating moment for me. ICON was the first place I started off my sales/BD/accounts career. Prior to this, I was a trainer within the fashion space but after a short period of time, I got bored and thought I wanted to try something else. I remember interviewing for the role and the hiring manager back then asked me, “Are you sure you want to do sales? Do you know it’s actually a very tough job?” After so many years being in this space, I’ve come to understand why she’d say that. Sales and BD really isn’t a role for anyone and everyone. It requires a particular type of skill set, a particular type of tenacity and most importantly an unrelentless attitude that will not be upset with taking no as an answer. It is a full circle moment for me last night. Little reminders like these help me to stay grounded and planted on my two feet. I’m also thankful for friends and ex colleagues who so openly welcomed me. I’m excited for what is ahead. #thoughts #sales
