𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Often we discuss and debate whether theoretical knowledge or experimental learning is more important. Physics is one of those subjects where experimental knowledge has significant importance. Can you truly learn physics without getting your hands dirty (although not necessarily with dust)? We can't digest theoretical knowledge without applying it to solving problems. ✏️ At the NAEST 2022 finale, I experienced the power of combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experimentation. NAEST challenged us to apply physics concepts to solve real-world problems. The elegant theories need practical verification, and random experiments without some planning can be inefficient. The same balance applies to our day-to-day lives too. Whether it is financial planning or buying electronics, a strategic balance of theoretical planning and practical experience leads to optimal outcomes. 🚀 P.S. – In the photo with the great 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑓. 𝐻. 🚀 Excited to announce the publication of our research article! 📚 🎓 Our study, titled "A comprehensive investigation of thermal management strategies in dissimilar micro-friction stir welding (dissimilar µFSW): Insights from numerical simulation and experimental observations," has been published in the esteemed journal "Engineering Failure Analysis" (Elsevier). I want to extend my gratitude to Dr. Probir Saha (Associate Professor, IIT Patna) for his mentoring and valuable inputs throughout this work. In this work, two different strategies were utilized to mitigate the thermal mismanagement issue during dissimilar micro-friction stir welding of 500 μm thick aluminum alloy sheets so as to eventually obtain defect-free and superior-quality joints. For efficient utilization of these strategies, the underlying process physics was analyzed using the numerical simulation tool. Parameters evolved during the process, such as temperature distribution, material flow velocity, and material intermixing, were assessed through a 3-D fully coupled thermo-mechanical model based on the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) framework. The numerical and experimental results were correlated. Furthermore, a detailed microstructure study stating the recrystallization behavior in the welded region (using the EBSD technique) was experimentally carried out along with the mechanical characterization. Congratulations to Prof. Piyush Chandra Verma and his team for getting their work published in Jurnal Tribologi. 🎉 𝐓𝐢𝐭le: Effect of solid lubricant particles on the tribological behavior of grease Highlights: The work aims to study the frictional characteristics of modified greases using a four-ball tester following the ASTM D-2266 standards. Three commercial greases were tested at various loads and RPMs of an L9 orthogonal array designed using Taguchi's to find the lowest CoF. The results indicate that incorporating MoS2 nanoparticles in grease can reduce the frictional coefficient by up to 38% and wear scar diameter by 17%. The modified grease provides better lubrication than the base grease, prompting its usage in low-temperature, moderate-load setups such as in automobile transmission systems.
