"I've lost many people dear to my heart, some of whom passed away, and some of whom were martyred. Grief is very difficult, of course, but I do not have the strength to bear their absence: Rasha, Muhammad, Qassem, Fatima... and many others." These reflections come from an internally displaced person in #Lebanon, struggling with profound grief and loss—emotions so heavy they were unable to speak them aloud, instead putting them to paper. Over a year into Israeli bombardments and incursions in Lebanon, countless families have been torn apart, their names now etched in sorrow, bearing an unbearable burden of #loss that no one should endure. Through a hotline and mobile medical units deployed in shelters, #MSF is providing crucial mental health support, helping people navigate the immense pain and trauma inflicted by this ongoing war.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day and Jami believes we must break the silence on suicidal thoughts. It is likely that we have met people over the course of our lives who have had suicidal thoughts, or we may have even had them ourselves. So, we need to be raising awareness in our communities. Rather than being immobilised by fear, we should acknowledge suicidal thoughts and encourage each other to seek help and support. To find out how we can support each other better, read more at https://lnkd.in/e5HAsNgQ For immediate help, ring Samaritans on Freephone 116 123 (24 hours) or Text Jami to 85258 for free, confidential support from SHOUT. If you need support or are supporting someone who needs help, visit jamiuk.org/get-support/ or call 020 8458 2223. #WSPD2024

TW: Violence, Bondi Tragedy, Discrimination --- The Wondering Wattle join the community outpouring of condolences to the families and victims of Saturday's tragedy in Bondi, NSW. We also thank those who stepped in bravely to halt the attack. Public violence of that magnitude is a rarity in our 'lucky country' and so, when it happens it wobbles us individually and collectively. As an organisation who support people living with mental health and, in particular, Schizophrenia, we are also acutely aware of the far reaching pervasive ripples of broader community outrage. We recognise that in collective grief and fear, words and emotions sometimes turn ugly and harmful. We know that the *vast* majority of people living with schizophrenia go about their lives ordinarily and incredibly successfully. We equally acknowledge the complexity of managing schizophrenia and the value of good supports and systems in successfully navigating fluctuations in wellness. The perpetrator and his actions are absolutely *not* reflective of the other 1 in 500 people living with schizophrenia in Australia. We are sorry if the 'broad brush' of cruel language, stereotyping and persecution has impacted you or those you love in any way post the event. The tragedy is enough on it's own without adding more community victims in the fallout. It's only when we come together that we are able to heal. Brave is kind Meryl 💛 Founder, Director Specialist and Support Coordinator

Israelis are experiencing a collective trauma at a magnitude never experienced before. Each week a new reality, territory previously uncharted and unimaginable. The trauma of the aggression shaking the nation to its core, reminding us of the ongoing challenges that Israelis confront daily. The scars of trauma often invisible, but profound and devastating. A quest for lasting peace and security. In the wake of Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel, NATAL experienced a significant increase in calls for help. Calls from concerned citizens, parents trying to calm their children, reservists and people of all ages seeking support in coping and managing their anxiety. NATAL knows that growth and healing are possible, and we are here to help. Your continued friendship is a testament to your belief in NATAL’s mission to provide critical mental health support to Israelis in their greatest time of need. Your support a gesture of empathy and solidarity that empowers individuals to navigate their healing journey with dignity and hope. This Passover is a time of healing, renewal, and the reaffirmation of hope for a brighter tomorrow.

**Join the Fight Against the Suicide Epidemic This Awareness Month** As we recognize Suicide Awareness Month, it's crucial to come together as a community to address the devastating suicide epidemic that affects every demographic across our nation. It's time for us to unite, share our thoughts and emotions, and take meaningful action. The power of unity cannot be underestimated. We must create an environment where open conversations about mental health are encouraged, and where no one feels alone in their struggles. Our children are observing our actions and listening to our words; it’s imperative that we model the strength it takes to seek help and support one another. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988) is an invaluable resource that can save lives. We need to spread the word about this helpline, breaking the stigma associated with reaching out for help. Remember, asking for assistance is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let's commit to stepping up and offering a hand to those in need. Together, we can create a culture of compassion and understanding, ensuring that everyone knows they are not alone. For more information and resources, visit [988 Lifeline](https://lnkd.in/gvcgkDTV). Let's make a difference together! Being a good neighbor and role model is the most patriotic thing you can do. Please share this message and this link, you just might save a life. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Vietnam Veterans Vietnam Veterans of America has sent a letter asking that the new hotline #988 be added to all veteran ID cards. Please get this done. #suicideawareness #988 #Suicidehotline #Veterans #Youth #Seniors #America

Are You Okay Day is an annual observation in Australia, celebrated on the second Thursday of every September. This year, it falls on September 14. On this day, Australians check up on each other, especially those who are going through a tough time. Since we keep too busy all year round, it is great that days like Are You Okay Day are observed to make us and those around us seen, heard, and understood. The day also addresses the crisis of social isolation and community cohesiveness. With a focus on the prevention of suicides and counseling, Are You Okay Day saves lives. R U OK? is a harm and suicide prevention charity that encourages people to have conversations that can help others and themselves navigate the difficult times in their lives. In 2011, a documentary was made on the extraordinary story behind R U OK? R U OK? focuses on building the motivation, confidence, and skills of the help-giver, especially in quickly recognizing suicidal ideations. The organization contributes to suicide prevention efforts by encouraging people to invest more time in their relationships and build an informal support network — friends, family, and colleagues. It is more about developing one’s skills as a helper than it is asking for help when you need it. Are You Okay Day also tries to remove the stigma of mental illnesses. #NationalRUOKDay2024 #RUOKDay2024 #RUOKDay #RUOK #ruokay #AskRUOK

Gentle reminder, today is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay. According to the #WorldHealthOrganisation, 720,000 people die due to suicide every year. A change in the narrative is needed to move from presenting suicide as a purely #MentalHealth issue to also acknowledging the impact of social factors, such as poverty, debt, addictions, homelessness, abuse, discrimination and social isolation, on a person’s decision to consider suicide. If you know someone struggling, or if you’re struggling yourself, please reach out. A conversation can be life-saving, spreading awareness is just the beginning. 24-hour Suicide Prevention Hotlines in Hong Kong: Caritas 24-hour Crisis Line 18288 Mental Health Support Hotline 18111 The Samaritans 2896 0000 The Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong 2389 2222 Suicide Prevention Services 2382 0000 There are many other organisations that provide support and counselling. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealthMatters #ReachOut #SupportEachOther #YouAreNotAlone #WHO
