One of the soundbites from "The Art of Hiring" event in NYC yesterday was from Keith Rabois: "don't hire anyone over the age of 30" 😳 😰 😔 Other (actually legal) paraphrased nuggets/observations: • [founders should] be in the details to a quite literally annoying degree • there shouldn't be consensus among a panel -- if everyone ranks the candidate as a "yes" or "strong yes" vs. some "no's" or "strong no's" mixed in, you shouldn't hire them • drill your mission and values into candidates at every touchpoint Something tells me this advice will get mixed reviews. #recruiting #hiring

August has been brutal. But here's the thing: I'm choosing empathy and kindness to navigate this storm. 3 key lessons from this month: 1. Direct hire recruiting? It's a rollercoaster. 2. Tech fails happen (RIP my Windows laptop). 3. Karma doesn't play favorites. Family dynamics? At an all-time low. But I'm holding onto faith. This too shall pass. “I would never work with Morgan & Morgan.” I get it. I’ve heard this countless times and it’s not insurmountable. Maybe you’re a boutique-moderate sized firm and your partnerships are spread thin as it is. We all have seasons and have to hold onto what we can to help as many injured clients as the bandwidth will allow. Maybe you’re in the same ballpark as us and see us as competitors with an ulterior motive. You don’t like the advertising and you’ve spent a lot of time building your reputation so the affiliation is not appealing. My question is, are you thinking like a business owner? Additionally, could you use a new hire/resource that will pay YOU? When the “big picture” is hard to see…numbers can paint it for us. Exhibit A is an intuitive calculator we’ve put together that visualizes what your firm is potentially leaving on the table annually from cases that don’t have a home. 🏠 I don’t know what your goals are, but I assume we have similar ones in mind or we wouldn’t be in this field.
