The introduction of Side-by-Side Extensions, SAP Fiori, and CAP (Cloud Application Programming), custom business logic can now be decoupled from the core system and deployed on the SAP Cloud Platform. Low-code/no-code frameworks and SAP AppGyver allow for citizen developers to extend applications with minimal code, leading to faster turnaround times for enhancements.

And now, when the recognized best practice for programming is the ABAP programming model for SAP Fiori, I look back and see an evolution in several areas in SAP. And it will continue, because the future programming model, called the ABAP RESTful programming model, is ready. From the point of view of an SAP traveler, many tools arrived, several techniques were developed and new concepts emerged in the context of interface, infrastructure and integration in SAP. You Can Use the Powers of RAP Even Without OData and Fiori. This might seem obvious to many ABAP Cloud experts familiar with RAP, but I've noticed that for many others not as familiar with RAP, this isn't so clear. I think it's important to emphasize: RAP isn't just for OData and Fiori. It's approach is amazing also for backend processes only, bringing many advantages. When you set up your RAP entity, ideally as managed or managed with unmanaged save, it simplifies your work. You automatically get numbering, validations,determination, additional actions and functions and so on. With EML (Entity Manipulation Language) after your RAP entity is ready, there's no need for extra abap developments like writing classes or function modules. EML makes it easy to manage your data with CRUD operations and to execute your actions and functions you defined. This not only makes development easier but also helps developers on Knowledge Transfers, giving them a straightforward way to work with entities, avoiding the complexity of understand custom classes or complex update function modules like in the past. However, it requires certain memory requirements, as Docker consumes half of the available memory; it is recommended to have 32GB available for Windows.
