What are the SQE questions actually like?? This was one of the things I was most worried about going into the exam. With the NDA and the lack ot past papers I had no clue what the actual exam would look like. This was made worst by what I had seen online about the questions being very different and way more difficult to anything out there. 7 Days to the July SQE 1 Exam! As the exam approaches, I want to share a crucial piece of advice that helped me immensely during my preparation. While many candidates rely on various study materials that dissect the exam into manageable bits, I used QLTS School (SQE Prep) and it was very good. It's equally important to research the SRA website for the official exam specification. Here's a strategy to revise on after reading: 💡 Visit the SRA SQE Website: Take the time to review the detailed exam specification provided by the SRA. This is your primary source of truth for what the exam will cover. 💡 Create a Checklist: Copy and paste the exam specification into a Word document. Use this as a comprehensive checklist for your revision. 💡 Structured Revision Notes: Align your revision notes with the exam specification. Under each heading, record the key legal principles and essential information. How I navigated the SQE... I’ll be doing a series of posts about my experience of navigating and successfully passing the SQE exams. Firstly, I did not do amazingly well, so there are no golden tips from me on how to ace the exams! I passed the exams through sheer hard work and determination and importantly moral support from my family and friends.   Secondly, these posts are the same as what I’ve been sharing with fellow colleagues and connections on LinkedIn who have asked about my experience of the SQE. Some day I’d like to cross examine someone who tells me that using multiple choice questions is not a way to test lawyering ability. It would start like this: 👉 MCQs make it easier for a non-deserving candidate to get to the answer, doesn’t it? 👉 Using them may result in wrong people becoming lawyers, wouldn’t it? 👉 Fewer non-deserving candidates would fail such assessments, would you agree? 👉 But the low pass rate on the MCQs in SQE1 suggests the opposite, doesn’t it? 👉 You are aware that MCQs aren’t ALL of the assessment, aren’t you? 👉 You would be OK if it formed some part of the assessment (and not all), wouldn’t you? 👉 Lawyering ability is really tested on SQE2, isn’t it? 👉 You agree that’s an intensive exam to administer, don’t you? 👉 Using MCQs to filter who appears for SQE2 would be proportionate, wouldn’t it? And so it would go… Treat the comments section as the witness box, if you will.
