Oui Capital has successfully returned its $4 million debut fund following a partial exit from Nigerian fintech unicorn Moniepoint Group, turning a $150,000 investment into an $8 million return. The exit occurred during Moniepoint's $110 million Series C round at a $1 billion valuation in October, marking a rare achievement in Africa's venture ecosystem where only 143 of 2,971 venture deals since 2019 have led to exits. The five-year-old African early-stage investor joins CRE VC and 4DX Ventures in returning their first funds through unicorn investments. Oui Capital, founded by Olu Oyinsan, MBA and Francesco Andreolí, has invested in 22 startups across two funds, including Duplo and Maad, and recently closed its second fund at $12 million. The success highlights the potential returns in African fintech investments and demonstrates how smaller funds can achieve significant returns through strategic portfolio construction and timing.

VC firm Norskenn22 plans to invest in 20 African startups by the end of 2025, per Bloomberg. The firm has already backed six African startups so far, including South African neobank firm Tyme Group. Norskenn22 has three more investments already lined up. The VC firm secured $205M in capital commitments towards its Africa-focused fund last year, which aimed to back “lean-tech solutions,” including software, web-based platforms, and artificial intelligence. The fund is a joint initiative between Northzone Ventures’ partner Hans Otterling and Niklas Adalberth’s Norrsken Foundation. Norskenn22 has backed startups across South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and Egypt. Per the African Private Capital Association, VC funding inflows into African startups slumped by 31% YoY in 2023 to $4.5B due to rising inflation and weakening local currencies.

New Post: G2 Ventures Partners is raising $750 million for a third fund - G2 Venture Partners, which spun out from Kleiner Perkins, is raising a third fund with a target of $750 million, signaling confidence in climate and sustainability startups amidst cautious sentiments from other investors regarding the incoming Trump administration. This new fund follows its second fund, which closed at $500 million in 2021. G2VP has invested in notable startups like Arcadia, 1Komma5, and Crusoe. The firm aims to support founders who seek to decouple consumption from growth, positioning itself favorably for future developments in the climate tech sector, as evidenced by their significant investment ambitions.
