Reducing Weight – Increasing Power SiC MOSFETs are revolutionizing power levels with up to 10% better efficiency, smaller die sizes, and eliminating the need for freewheeling diodes (FWDs) used in silicon-based systems to block sudden voltage spikes when switching the power devices. Ideal for high-performance applications like automotive inverters, SiC enables higher power, faster operation, and better temperature resilience. However, to fully harness its potential, reliable materials and interconnects are essential. Learn how we are leading the way in SiC solutions for the #automotive industry in this article by our Global Director of Power Electronics and New Business Development, Gustavo Greca: https://lnkd.in/esyG9f3y

Why SiC-MOSFETs are suitable for #EV traction inverters compared to Si-IGBT : 1. SiC-MOSFETs have high breakdown voltage with low switching losses. Hence, there is an enhancement in efficiency by 1.4% - 4.4% 2. Critical Electric Field 'Ecrit' value of SiC is 7 times that of Si Ecrit . Hence thinner devices can be made at the same breakdown voltage. 3. Planer SiC-MOSFETs are suitable for high frequency applications due to low switching losses. 4. Overall, wide band gap semiconductor devices are more efficient than their Si-based counterpart due to significantly less leakage current. 5. Maximum junction temperature of Si-based device is around 150°C while SiC-MOSFETs can operate at temperatures up to 200°C . The ability of SiC devices to withstand high temperature and switch faster with low switching losses directly result in improved thermal management and decrease in the size of heat sinks as well as cooling systems. #Inverter #TeslaMotors #Rivian #PowerElectronics

EMC issues for accurately measuring electric powertrains (Webinar) – Charged EVs Measuring electric motors and inverters can be extremely frustrating due to the inverter-induced noise on the measurement cabling. This can be difficult for engineers experienced in measuring inverters, and overwhelming for people new to inverters. New SiC and GaN switching devices and higher battery voltages make these measurements even more difficult. Join this webinar, presented https://lnkd.in/gMkvk9Pn

Optocouplers have been used for many years to provide secondary-side regulation for isolated power supplies. However, using an optocoupler comes with a variety of issues including poor reliability and low bandwidth. Be sure to check out this article on EDN I co-authored with my colleague Sarmad which discusses how you can use an opto-emulator, like TI's ISOM8110, to improve the transient response and overall reliability of your system. https://lnkd.in/g7RXk72U
