It’s no joke; starting April 1, 2024, United Airlines will enhance its twice-daily service to Denver on larger planes. This means an 86% increase in seats, allowing for more business and tourism opportunities in and out of the Edmonton Metro Region. We thank United and its partnership with Air Canada for its continued growth at YEG. #YEG #Edmonton

Nigeria’s Air Peace to lease Norse Boeing 787s to commence London services Nigerian-based airline Air Peace is preparing to start its long-awaited service linking Lagos with London on March 30, 2024. Without available aircraft of its own to start services on the route, the carrier will be using leased Boeing 787-9s supplied by Norse Atlantic Airways (Norse) The new route will see Air Peace operate from Lagos’ Murtallah Muhammed International Airport (LOS) to London-Gatwick Airport (LGW) four times per week commencing at the start of the IATA northern summer schedule period. According to Air Peace, the agreement with the UK-based arm of Norwegian carrier Norse is a wet-lease deal that will last for two months initially, but with the possibility of an extension. The airlines have also disclosed that they are in exploratory talks about further ways in which Norse aircraft could be sued to expedite Air Peace’s ambitious long-haul expansion plans. Europe’s Airline Consolidation Plans Creep Ahead Two of Europe’s legacy airline groups received unwelcome—if not entirely unexpected—news in recent days, after the European Commission said it would open in-depth investigations into International Airlines Group’s proposed acquisition of Air Europa and Lufthansa’s deal for an initial 41% stake in ITA Airways. The European Commission (EC) said on Jan. 24 it was opening a Stage II investigation into International Airlines Group’s (IAG) planned takeover of Spanish operator Air Europa, two days after the EC announced the same step for Lufthansa and ITA. Very interesting news this week: Nigeria’s Air Peace would like to cooperate with Norse Atlantic Airways to launch flights from Lagos to London Gatwick as they struggle to secure their own slots. But who’s helping who here? If you are in Europe, you may have not heard much about Air Peace yet, but let’s compare them to Norse Atlantic: Norse Atlantic holds 44 weekly slots at Gatwick for the Summer 2024 season, utilising 32 so far. Air Peace was authorised to operate to the UK in November 2023 but has yet to secure market access. It operates one B777-200ER and two B777-300s, as well as a fleet of narrowbody and regional aircraft unable to reach the UK non-stop, including seven B737-300s, six B737-500s, one Do328-300, eight E145s, and five E195-E2s. It has a firm order for five E175s, ten B737-8s, and eight more E195-E2s. Norse Atlantic did not respond to our question as to whether it would lease or trade any of its slots to Air Peace or rather use them to operate on their behalf, but their Senior VP (Communications), Philip Allport, said the airlines only had "an initial informal meeting" so far, regarding the potential cooperation. #aviation #aviationdaily #data #NorseAtlantic #AirPeace #airlines #slots #chaviation

European Regions Airline Association ‘raison d’etre’ is to join forces amongst European airlines to support the objective of European regional development and air connectivity. The air services that are provided by the ERA airlines are essential to achieve this objective for citizens and businesses, both passengers and cargo. We reinforced this message during a meeting today between ERA board members and the DG for Transport, DG MOVE @EuropeanCommission Magda Kopczynska It is therefore important that any EU policy acknowledges the different type of business model that regional airlines operate, and this is taken into consideration in any impact assessment, to avoid increasing/disproportionate costs for those operating primarily in the European airspace and generally not benefiting of economies of scale, as well as to allow our sector to deliver its declarbonisation roadmap. American Airlines plans to reduce its transatlantic services this winter. Starting October 27, 2024, the airline will stop operating its third daily roundtrip flight between Los Angeles and London Heathrow and suspend the #Phoenix to #London route until March 28, 2025. The goal of these adjustments is to maintain a balance between supply and demand, particularly in wintertime when there is less travel. The modifications also refer to possible reallocations within the fleet, like the refurbishment of Boeing 777-300ERs. This planned action is a reflection of American Airlines’ dedication to strengthening its worldwide network and the dynamic patterns of international aviation. #americanairlines #aviationnews #Boeing777

Which Airline Should Join The oneworld Alliance Next? Given oneworld Alliance carrier Alaska Airlines’ recent acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, it would appear another brand is set to join the oneworld Alliance fold. The smallest of the three major airline alliances with just 13 current members, the group has the potential to grow even further. Two airlines have already confirmed they will be joining the program in the coming months. Fiji Airways (which is set to adopt the American Airlines AAdvantage loyalty program) and Oman Air (the second Gulf carrier to join oneworld following Qatar Airways) will officially join the group. Speaking to Simple Flying’s Sumit Singh earlier this summer, oneworld Alliance CEO Nathaniel Pieper said that any future airlines must bring a range of new destinations without significantly eroding the market share of existing oneworld carriers. Which airlines do you think have a complimentary network that would fit well in the oneworld Alliance? - Jonathan E. CCCS is inviting public feedback from 8 to 19 August 2024 on the release of Qantas Airways Limited (QF) and Emirates (EK) from capacity commitments on the Singapore-Brisbane (SIN-BNE) and Singapore-Melbourne (SIN-MEL) routes, and the release of QF from capacity commitments on the SIN-MEL route. A conditional clearance decision was issued on 28 March 2013 for the proposed alliance between the Parties after they provided CCCS with a voluntary undertaking to maintain weekly seat capacities for passengers on the SIN-BNE and SIN-MEL routes. On 22 October 2019, CCCS released EK from its capacity commitments on the SIN-BNE route following a request by EK in connection with its withdrawal from the route.
