Exciting News: Macs Adventure is Now B Corp Certified!
We’re proud to announce that Macs Adventure has achieved B Corp certification! This milestone reflects our deep commitment to making a positive impact through purpose-driven, sustainable travel.
Self-guided travel by foot or on two wheels is at the heart of what we do—and it’s a force for good. Not only does it have a lower carbon impact, but by working with locally owned suppliers, we actively support livelihoods and foster sustainable community development. Achieving B Corp status affirms our dedication to meeting the highest standards of social, environmental, and transparent business practices.
Thank you to our incredible B Corp team—Graham Horner, Lynsey Kirk, Rachel Parsons, Claire Ouditt, Erin Pattie, Dennis Schank, John Hall FCCA, Aria Nicoletti and Louise McDougall—for championing this journey. We couldn’t have reached this milestone without your hard work and passion!

<<KLAXON>> Macs Adventure is a B Corp!
This is a very proud moment for us as a business, and for me personally. It marks the achievement of a vision we set out two years ago. Back then, we knew instinctively we could, and should, be a B Corp but we had to go on a journey to prove it. As the leader of that journey, I've certainly had my ups and downs, but have never felt a greater sense of purpose, or reward.
Becoming a B Corp takes serious commitment, so here are my learnings for anyone contemplating it:
1. Take the time upfront to consider what does and doesn’t feel authentic to your business when it comes to (non-profit) social and environmental goals - accept you can't, and shouldn't, do everything. At Macs, we honed in on 4 of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals that spoke best to what we do, including decent work, economic growth and good health and wellbeing. We then set about defining the things we could do to amplify the positive impact we make in each of these areas, creating our agenda for change.
2. Build a passionate team around you to deliver the process and be sure to allocate time to it - it's not a side hustle. You’ll need representatives from different areas of the business - B Corp is as much about how you govern and look after your people as what you do for the environment or the community. The team will need to be curious and tenacious to see it through (which, in the case of my team at Macs, they were. They have been superb.)
3. Involve the whole business. I updated the whole Macs team each month on where we were in our journey and, more importantly, what they could do to contribute. It was brilliant to see colleagues taking the initiative.
4. Get help from someone who’s done it before. Mehalah Beckett got us started, working through what was and wasn't material to our business. Charlie Cotton and the team at ecollective brought invaluable expertise on environmental measurement. We also engaged Rachel Parsons (courtesy of an intro from our Chair Paul Carter) to work with us on completing the Business Impact Assessment itself and amassing the evidence needed (the nuts about bolts of the B Corp process). Her enthusiasm and encouragement lifted me, and all the team, when things seemed overwhelming, and her experience and pragmatism ensured we put our energy in the right places. Rachel, we couldn’t have done it without you!

🐝 Bee Net Zero partner Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has launched its second Business Travel Survey.
This short survey is to understand how businesses feel about the current public transport and active travel network in Greater Manchester, and what would encourage them to take up sustainable ways of traveling for their employees and business operations. Businesses must operate in Greater Manchester and participants need to be able to answer on behalf of their business.
The Business Travel Survey helps TfGM to be better informed around the challenges and opportunities for businesses taking up sustainable travel options, inform the design of advice, resources and services, improve the way they communicate with businesses and to track businesses attitudes and priorities over time. For example, responses from last year’s survey helped to inform the approach for a night time transport pilot launching later
this year in parts of Greater Manchester.

🎉 We’ve got something Big to tell you! 🎉
Yes, you read it right. After almost a year of hard work, we’re proud to announce that TravelLocal is now a Certified B Corporation®! This means that we've met the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. No small feat. To achieve certification, businesses need to complete a comprehensive assessment which is an evaluation of a company’s positive impact, and pass a risk review, an evaluation of a company’s negative impact resulting in a minimum score of 80. We're very proud to share that we received a score of 91.5 on our assessment. 🎉
This is a huge deal for us because it aligns with our vision: creating authentic and unique travel experiences that benefit not only travellers, but also the environment, ecosystems, and our local partners. When we say we want to Reimagine Travel we mean it. And receiving the B Corp™ certification is just another step in our journey.
Why become a B Corp™? Because we want to make travel a force for good, one that ensures positive impacts on both people and the planet. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it. This certification is just the beginning.
Welcome to a new chapter in our journey. Let's Reimagine Travel together!
