📊 Weekly Data Dive: Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week! 📊   Maryland’s apprenticeship programs are growing stronger than ever! In FY 2023, the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Program saw:   📈 12,345 active apprentices across the state — a 5% increase from the previous year! 👥 4,567 new apprentices registered, bringing fresh talent into key industries. 🏢 182 program sponsors, showing a strong commitment from businesses to invest in skilled career paths. 🎓 211 youth apprentices gaining early experience through the Apprenticeship Maryland Program (AMP) in 16 counties.   From healthcare to IT and manufacturing, apprenticeships are fueling Maryland’s future workforce. This week is the first annual #YouthApprenticeshipWeek which was inspired by National Apprenticeship Week! We are proud to have 487 Youth Apprentices in Dane County this school year alone, with hundreds more applications for the 2024-2025 school year. Our Youth Apprentices are employed in 13 different clusters and gaining skills for their future careers TODAY! #workforceready #YAW2024 #ApprenticeshipUSA

According to the Women in the Michigan Workforce report, in 2023, there were just 600 women in construction and just under 400 women in manufacturing registered apprenticeships. This made-up 5.1% and 10.2% of total active registered apprentices in these industries. Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) is an organization that increases the number of women in construction skilled trades by administering the Apprenticeship Readiness Program (ARP). In this 16-week program, apprentices learn the fundaments and basic skills through a combination of classroom and hands-on activities. Graduates of a WIST ARP are guaranteed an interview with one of our sponsoring Building Trades Unions, to join their Apprenticeship Program, where they can continue their on-the-job training while getting paid. Last week was the 10-Year Anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week. The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) celebrated by recognizing the impact of Registered Apprenticeships on the state’s workforce and economy. According to the 2024 Women in the Michigan Workforce Report, the percentage of women enrolled in registered apprenticeships is slowly increasing, but has a aways to go. By providing a hub dedicated to registered apprenticeship opportunities for employers and employees, LEO keeps Michigan’s workforce one step ahead and equips the women of Michigan to explore these nontraditional career paths and step into high paying jobs.
