This week we want to take a moment to recognize Arbor Day, which was on 5th of June. Led by the Arbor Day Foundation, a global non-profit, Arbor Day aims to increase awareness of the importance of planting, nurturing and celebrating trees. They’ve helped plant over 500 million trees over the last 50 years, in over 50 countries around the world. 🌳😊 Much like ourselves and, if you’re reading this - we suspect you too, the Arbor Day foundation believes in the benefits of trees. Recognizing the positive impact of trees to both individuals and the planet, they’re pushing for more tree planting, with the goal of adding another 500 million trees by 2027. How far did your lunch travel? 🍋 Food miles - the distance food travels from farm to plate - are a significant but often overlooked contributor to carbon emissions. Our oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface and contain more than 90% of all living creatures. Happy World Oceans Day Weekend! Today, we celebrate the beauty and importance of our oceans, and the vital work being done to protect them. One organization making a significant impact is EarthShare, particularly through their 30x30 Project. This initiative aims to increase awareness for 30x30 and build the desire and momentum for authentic activism. The 30x30 Project offers an interactive educational microsite where visitors can learn about core environmental solutions implemented by on-the-ground nonprofits across the United States. March 22nd is World Water Day! To commemorate this day, we are highlighting project #5072 Developing a Framework for the Reduction of Organizational Water and Associated Energy Use GreenUP has been Peterborough region’s leading organization focused on climate action, environmental education, and community resilience. A non-profit charitable organization, their mission is to inspire and empower environmentally healthy and sustainable action. The student working with GreenUp will lay the groundwork for a process that will help organizations in Peterborough and the Kawarthas assess their water impact, set reduction targets, and implement action plans to reduce water and associated energy use. The aim is to implement such a water framework in 2022, and that this will result in a measurable reduction in water use and improved stormwater diversion among member businesses.
