What was missing at the Post and Parcel Expo 2024 Here are the four things I want to see changed for the next year's event: 🟡 The relatively low presence of software vendors in an increasingly digital logistics landscape. 🟡 The near-absence of AI-powered solutions despite their potential to optimize delivery and customer service processes. 🟡 The lack of robotic and autonomous delivery systems on display, even though automation is crucial for the future of last-mile logistics. 🟡 Some exhibitors could have stepped up their marketing and sales efforts, with a few empty booths and lacklustre engagement seeming out of place in such a competitive industry. 🌟 Insights from Logistica Next! 🌟 Last week, Dave Anakotta, MA from our Netherlands office, attended the prestigious Logistica Next trade fair. This event brought together over 300 exhibitors and 200 guest speakers to discuss the latest innovations and challenges in the logistics sector. Dave's key takeaways were: 🔹 SCALLOG's AMR Boby: A French competitor to Geek+, introduced a new rental model transforming capital expenditure (Capex) to operational expenditure (Opex) with a minimum rental period of one month. 🔹 STILL BeNeLux Advancements in Self-Driving Vehicles (SDVs): Equipped with the latest 360-degree camera technologies, these SDVs offer more flexibility compared to Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and are compatible with existing Material Handling Equipment (MHE). The technology includes smart obstacle handling, enabling seamless integration of human and machine labour. 🔹 Modula Flexibox: Set to be introduced in spring 2025, this Vertical Lift Module (VLM) offers vertical storage up to 20 meters on a width of 4 meters, on a minimum floor area of 3 m². It can collate up to 9 totes on a shelf and present them at once to a warehouse operative. 🔹 Buck Consultants International's "Seven Golden Rules for Outsourcing Logistics": This presentation highlighted the importance of a clear outsourcing strategy, fair pricing models, automation, and continuous improvement activities among 3PLs.
