Post MBA till I became a Head, I have been like that extracurricular student who loves conducting and participating in non-work related stuff (After doing all the work of course 😁). I used to conduct fun events, quizzes, informative sessions, and even activities from famous TV shows. However, the feedback from the organizations was mostly neutral. They were like "Good that you guys enjoyed! Now, let's get back to work". At times, it was negative. I am sure the Flash mob dance at the office is definitely on this list. I had always felt such activities are crucial for folks to develop rapport within the team and that people need to smile and laugh "at work" at least on some days of the year. But, this idea was never recognised let alone recognising my efforts. With such a past, I join Appian last year. During an all-hands, I hear about an award called "Community". (Note that all award winners get an official recognition that comes with shout-outs in a department-level all-hands, badges on your profile, and a cash prize.) And I learn that this award is given to those who are "Promoting harmony and getting the community together". Basically, you could do anything that fits this goal including conducting events and planning outings for your team. If your team had a good time leading to improved morale, they can nominate you for this award. I was like "Wow! This is stuff of my dreams. I'd be richer if I joined Appian Corporation a decade back 😁". On a serious note, while recognitions are normal, this one is super special. Something I have never even heard of in my long career so far. Felt like sharing this among the good culture posts of Meesho. Kudos to the mastermind behind this award. P.S. This pic was taken in 2015 when this team of volunteers (I, Sapna, Akshay, Pranjali, Rutuja, Sumeet) conducted a Treasure Hunt for all the employees and made everyone run all over the IT park. Most fun times of my career at BISIL (Business Integration Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd.)
Such great memories and happy faces! :-)
