This morning, one of my Gen Z employees asked me why we’re doing an End of Financial Year sale – and honestly? Fair question. Here’s what I told him: 💰 Managers often have budget allocations expiring on 30 June, and would rather spend it on something valuable for the future, rather than hand it back. 💰 Personal spend on professional development or education by 30 June *could* be claimed back on your next tax return. #notfinancialadvice So here’s my shameless invitation for you to park any remaining budget with HEX this June! 🧑🏻🎓 50% off HEX Degree Accelerator: Academic credit-bearing, 6-week online course. Designed for current undergrad students who want to improve their employability, save money and time on their degree, and build their network. With tickets as low as $59, this is a great (and fun!) option for team bonding, school excursions, or personal learning and development. 🦹🏽 Workshops, speaking and facilitation for schools, unis or workplaces: If you’ve got events coming up in ‘24-25, you can bank credit with us now – and work out the details later. Why Your Peers Shape Your Future More Than Your Diploma As I reflect on a profound conversation about peer influence and personal growth, I'm reminded of this timeless insight about the environments we choose to immerse ourselves in. The contrast between traditional academic settings and entrepreneurial communities has never been more clear to me. The Ivy League Paradox While great schools carry prestige and promise, I've learned that even elite institutions don't automatically create the most transformative peer environments. The reality is that traditional academic settings often channel ambitions into conventional paths - like the race for investment banking internships - rather than fostering true innovation and personal growth. The Founder Effect What's fascinating is how different the energy becomes when founders and innovators surround you. There's something uniquely potent about being in a room with people who are building, creating, and pushing boundaries. This environment doesn't just inspire - it fundamentally shifts your perception of what's possible. Carl Jung's wisdom resonates deeply here: "The world will come and ask you who you are, and if you don't know, it will tell you." This powerful truth underscores a crucial life lesson - if we don't actively choose our direction and our circle, others will choose for us. The Ultimate Truth Perhaps the most humbling realization is that none of us are immune to peer influence. The key isn't to resist it but to be intentional about choosing the right peers. It's about creating an environment where peer pressure pushes us toward growth, innovation, and becoming our best selves. #PeerInfluence #PersonalGrowth #Leadership #EntrepreneurialMindset #CommunityBuilding

Most of my classes at Stanford included “class participation” as part of the grading policy. I hated it. I was always the quiet one. I was a good student, but I never felt comfortable raising my hand or speaking up in class. But, because it affected my grade, I forced myself to do it. However, after college, I struggled to participate in meetings, and there was no grading policy to push me. Except that there was a grading policy… Just not an explicit one. Every interaction at work--whether it’s an email, a quick chat in the hallway, or a meeting- contributes to how people perceive you. Every moment is an opportunity for people to assess whether you add value to the organization. The people who are seen as valuable are the ones who get raises, high-profile projects, and promotions. Even beyond your current role, small interactions leave lasting impressions with people who may go on to other companies. Down the road, those same people could either open doors for you--or quietly close them. Basically, every interaction can be a building block for your future. You can either use each moment to build something better--or let it pass you by.
