Strategies for Supporting English Language Learners (ELLs) in Content Areas 🌍✏️ Supporting English Language Learners (ELLs) in content areas like science, history, and math can be challenging, but with the right strategies, you can help ELLs thrive. Here are some effective ways to support your students: Use Visual Aids: Incorporate pictures, diagrams, and videos to help explain content. Visuals provide context and make abstract concepts easier to grasp. Provide Sentence Frames: Give ELLs sentence frames to guide their responses. This helps them practice content-specific vocabulary while also improving their speaking and writing skills. Simplify Language Without Simplifying Content: Use clear and simple language to explain complex topics without reducing the rigor. Break down difficult texts into manageable parts. Collaborative Learning: Pair ELLs with native English-speaking peers for group activities. Peer support helps build language skills and promotes deeper understanding of content. Focus on Academic Vocabulary: Explicitly teach subject-specific vocabulary. Use word walls, flashcards, and interactive games to help reinforce important terms in different content areas. Every student can succeed when given the right tools and support. Dear language learner, Let’s talk about your learning style today. I have recently done some research on myself and how I learn, then I realized it is a good thing to share with you too. Here are the common categories that I found: 👉 Visual learner 👉 Auditory learner 👉Read/write learner 👉Kinesthetic learner. Just as their names imply, you might have been able to know the category you belong to. Let’s talk about how best you can use your learning style to learn French. 📌 Visual learners: if you are in this category, learn with more visual items such as charts and diagrams and watch French videos 📌 Auditory learners: as long as you belong to this category, you can learn by listening to French audio such as podcasts, radio or speakers and repeating after them. 📌 Read or write: as a learner in this category, you need to get some textbooks or novels, and then actively jot down while reading. 📌 Kinesthetic learner: as a hands-on learner, you would love to practice some activities such as playing some French games, role-playing games, and labelling activities. People naturally combine 2-3 learning styles. Know your learning style so you can use them to learn language effectively. I combine visual and read/write; what about you? I am Olatimilehin Adebisi, and I teach French to language enthusiasts. #french #faq #learning #tutor.

Harnessing the Power of Video Lessons for Adult English Language Learners (ELLs). In an increasingly interconnected world, providing accessible and engaging learning experiences for Adult ELLs is crucial. Video lessons offer a compelling solution, catering to diverse needs and empowering these students to thrive. Why Video Works for ELLs 🎥 It's a Multisensory Experience: Videos activate both visual and auditory channels. ELLs see the context of language, linking actions and objects to words, while hearing natural pronunciation and cadence. 🎥 Control Over Learning: Struggling students can pause, rewind, and revisit content as needed. This personalized pacing reduces anxiety and increases comprehension. 🎥Engagement is Key: Videos can be dynamic, using humor, music, and real-life scenarios to keep ELLs motivated and help overcome language-related barriers. 🎥Anytime, Anywhere: Self-access to video lessons empowers ELLs to learn at their own pace, building confidence and autonomy. Key Strategies for Success: ➡️ Intentional Selection: Choose videos with clear language, appropriate pacing, and consider options with captions or subtitles for added support. ➡️ Beyond the Screen: Videos are a powerful tool, but don't forget about hands-on activities, personalized interaction, and opportunities for ELLs to practice speaking and writing. ➡️ Preview and Review: Encourage ELLs to preview videos for vocabulary exposure or revisit them to reinforce concepts – mastery comes with repetition. As educators, embracing the potential of video instruction allows us to create more inclusive and effective learning environments for ELL students. By understanding the unique advantages videos offer, we help them build a strong foundation in English and unlock new pathways to success. Do you have experience using video lessons with ELLs? Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor.studio: 2024 taught me that true teaching is an art of translation - not just between languages, but between theory and practice, challenge and opportunity. The year began with a classroom moment that crystallized everything: watching a student who struggled with Arabic suddenly connect with a complex grammatical concept through a carefully differentiated learning approach. That moment wasn't just about language; it was about unlocking potential. My professional journey this year reflected that same spirit of transformation. I earned two significant diplomas - in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and in Education - but these weren't just certificates. They were tools to build more inclusive, dynamic learning environments. My most impactful moments captured this philosophy: 🌟 "Unlocking Minds Through Advanced Teaching Strategies" explored how practical, classroom-tested techniques can revolutionize language learning. "The session was filled with practical insights, classroom-tested techniques, and innovative methods to engage students in their language-learning journey." https://lnkd.in/deRA5EzM 🌟 "Practical Strategies vs. Theoretical Overload" challenged educators to move beyond abstract theories. "While teaching theories provide valuable insights, I believe that, as teachers, we often crave hands-on strategies we can apply directly with our students." https://lnkd.in/du_ADJsM 🌟 "Exciting Milestone Achieved" celebrated continuous learning. My core belief: "Nothing is too late." https://lnkd.in/dzPg8fYe Looking ahead to 2025, I'm not just planning to teach Arabic - I'm committed to creating learning experiences that transform how students see language, themselves, and their potential. To every educator pushing boundaries, creating inclusive spaces, and believing in the power of differentiated learning: your work matters more than you know. #ArabicTeaching #DifferentiatedInstruction #TeacherLife #EducationInnovation #ProfessionalDevelopment #LinkedInRewind #Coauthor #2024wrapped -- Get your 2024 LinkedIn Rewind!
