Surveillance and privacy have been a constant thought for more than a year now. I have not posted like I used to for months now. Constant indecisiveness and struggle to answer, "How much is too much to share?" and "How much is too less?" led to no post at all. CONTEXTUAL MEANING 🔹It refers to the specific meaning that a word or phrase takes on within a particular context or situation. To get the contextual meaning of a word in the Bible, you look at the Text, Pretext and surrounding context. If you are doing a study yourself, you can get this through cross reference, Bible commentaries and lexicons, consult different translations, read the original languages and use bible concordance. This is also called the grammatical-historical interpretation. 🔹In my previous post, I explained that baptizo is a verbal participle not a verb, which means you look at how it relates to the main verb, MAKE DISCIPLES and with the other words in the sentence. 🔹Lastly, pay attention to the response of the audience because a speaker speaks to be understood and by observing the audience response, we get the meaning of what he said. Imagine if you were to tell someone “come”. How do you know if the person understood what you said? Is by the person coming towards you right?
