Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust’s Post

Our expert radiotherapy team at Kent and Canterbury Hospital have cared for their first patient with a type of high-dose radiation to target lung cancer and provide even quicker treatment times. Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) delivers high doses of radiation in fewer treatments compared with conventional radiotherapy techniques, precisely locating tumours while protecting surrounding healthy tissues. SABR means shorter treatment courses and fewer side effects, and has been provided at Maidstone Hospital since 2017. Expanding the service to Canterbury means patients in east Kent can now be treated much closer to home. The Kent Oncology Centre - which delivers radiotherapy at both Maidstone and Kent & Canterbury hospitals - is one of the country's largest cancer centres and is achieving all three national cancer standards, making our cancer services one of the best performing in the country. Well done to the team for providing this fantastic new service to our patients! 👏
