Giving thanks does not come naturally to sinful human beings. It is a learned trait. In the etiquette of traditional American culture, children are constantly reminded to say “please” and “thank you.” Part of the training which goes into professional life, since it is not a feature of working-class culture, is always to respond to a gift with a hand-written “thank you” note. It is a part of every successful fund-raising campaign. It functions to let the giver know you received the gift, that it was appreciated, and to give an opportunity to let the giver know what use their donation is going to support. Compassionate Ottawa’s free, research-based grief workshops provide a safe, guided space to explore and discuss different kinds of loss—whether it's the death of a loved one, the loss of health or independence, or other non-death-related transitions. In January, I am headed to Walt Disney World to participate in the DOPEY CHALLENGE, a running series that will total 48.6 miles over a 4-day span (5K, 10K, Half-Marathon, Full Marathon). When I thought about this HUGE commitment, I didn’t want to do it just for myself. I wanted to make a difference and have teamed up with No Kid Hungry, an amazing non-for-profit organization that aims to solve the childhood hunger issue in the U.S. that millions of kids live with each day. Childhood hunger is critical to address because it harms children’s health, growth, and learning, limiting their future potential.
