Air safety has been a matter of concern eversince air travel has become accessible and cost-effective. For this purpose, the study of Flight Data Recorders (FDRs) and Cockpit Voice Recorders (CVRs), generally known as black boxes, are important. An aircraft black box is a famous (or infamous) aircraft component that tells stories about a particular flight. This talk is focused around some common questions on aircraft black boxes. A few are: (i) The black box is really a black-one? (No, it is painted orange. But why? (ii) What does a black box do? (iii) During an engine-fire how can a black box record the data? (iv) During an accident if an aircraft goes inside water then how a black box records and how to recover the black box? (v) Is it tape based or solid-state? And so far so on. https://lnkd.in/gPaUDy92

⚖️✈️ Know the Rules of Right-of-Way In the air, knowing the rules of right-of-way is crucial to avoid collisions. If you see another aircraft on a collision course, take the appropriate evasive action—climb, descend, or turn. Be prepared for the other pilot to maneuver too! #RightOfWay #CollisionAvoidance #AviationRules#ChennaiFlightSchool#AvelFlightSchool

Aircraft - Crash ATR72 (Brazil) Posted 100824-01 Tag #aircraft #crash Sadly just a reminder that the laws of physics apply to aircraft flight. Forward motion is required to send air over all the control surfaces to allow for the directional control of the aircraft in all three dimensions. A video in the newscast below clearly slows a flat spin the dreaded circumstance in which the plane under gravity just falls downward without any forward motion. Difficult to imagine how the pilots were trying to frantically recover the situation and what was being experienced by the passengers. Unfortunately the aircraft involved, the ATR72, has had a number of similar accidents. So those of us interested in the aircraft industry have an on going interest and concern in this aircraft’s safety reputation. But as normal the qualifier is let’s await for the official outcome of the accident investigation. There has been some heated discussion on social media as to whether the smartphone footage should have been shared. My view is this footage is invaluable in the accident investigation and that may stop such a future accident. As for the poor crew and passengers families. What a nightmare seeing such videos. For all of us how they must feel is unimaginable and for all of us our worst nightmares. RIP Banno

In order to influence our future, we have to understand our past. Thats one of the reasons I keep highlighting accidents from long ago. Without these accidents, we wouldn’t have many of the procedures and protections we have today and without understanding the reasons behind them, we are doomed to repeat them.. just in new ways. This weeks Mentour Pilot video is dedicated to the last major accident to happen on Tenerife. One that has been obscured by the terrible runway collision that happened just a few years before. This accident highlighted the importance of clear, two way communication, as well as adherence to established emergency procedures. https://lnkd.in/d8eSmK5p

Few airline passengers know just how many safety systems are installed aboard modern commercial aircraft. So it was a professional privilege to be invited by Honeywell Aerospace Technologies aboard their Boeing 757 testbed in June for a demonstration of their SURF-A safety technology - the first time such tech has been tested in a live scenario in the UK. In essence an extension of TCAS (airborne collision avoidance tech) developed specifically for aircraft landing and taxiing around airports, SURF-A generates audiovisual warnings to pilots that they're on a collision course - prompting them to stop and/or take avoiding action. If this was fitted to Japan Airlines flight JAL516, which crashed in January after an aircraft wrongly taxied onto the runway beneath the landing Airbus, it could have helped prevent the accident altogether. Aircraft cockpits are festooned with lights, panels, bells, gongs, horns, warning displays to alert those in control of an imminent danger. Conscientious pilots, like my father back in the day, are trained for every eventuality, to take swift, remedial action, to fly their aircraft despite all injury and against all adversity, to protect the lives that have been entrusted to their care and, when all else fails, to preserve lives of third parties who stand in the path of their stricken flying machines. It is their duty and their codex: to heed the warnings and take all evasive action that is within their human power. So why is there not a similar response to climate warnings? 3 March 1974.
