Today, the UK celebrates Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night. This annual event commemorates the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, in which Guy Fawkes and other conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament. The night is marked with fireworks displays, bonfires, and the burning of effigies of Guy Fawkes. Families and communities gather to enjoy the festivities, often indulging in traditional foods like toffee apples and parkin cake. The event serves as a reminder of the historical significance of the plot and the enduring cultural traditions associated with its remembrance. #GuyFawkes #BonfireNight

Sharing your light, in many ways that is Leadership; pure and simple. We all have our own unique context and lens on a situation. Leadership asks that we step up and speak to that. What could possibly be more worthwhile of our lives? And Richard Branson of course shines his light by celebrating the Bates enormous efforts and success! So round and round we go with eveyone afforded the opportunity to add value and right action to their world.
Congratulations Mr Bates – and Mrs Bates. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of a break than Suzanne and Alan Bates, who remarkably led the campaign for victims of the Post Office scandal. We invited them to Necker Island, where it was an honour to officiate their beautiful wedding. I know they will continue to spread the beautiful light they share with everyone around them: https://virg.in/3ATgOnw

I am a Palestinian business owner. Deal with it. I am proud to use our small business platform to stand up for justice. Asking for an end to an indiscriminate war on a civilian population isn't conditional on who's paying us or who may be uncomfortable with our beliefs. I believe in peace, in justice, in humanity, in a ceasefire. It's pretty simple. As a business owner, I am fully aware of the risk this poses – if only our company measured its success and worth by its bottom line, which we don't. We measure our company success by knowing who we are. We measure it by having solidarity for any member of our staff whose identity, people, community or self expression are threatened or at risk. I am particularly aware of the bias that will be assumed in my position on the topic of Palestine. I also know what my progressive values are: uncompromising, especially in this moment. Excessive and disproportionate use of power, in any circumstance, needs to be called out. Independence in this case means the above views are my own... AND MY COMPANY'S. ✊
Macklemore’s latest song, “Hind’s Hall,” minces no words about the United States’ complicity in the genocide in Palestine and the power of youth-led protests. It’s gained over 20 million streams on Spotify, with all proceeds going to UNRWA USA. Content like this stands out because Macklemore did his research, and is unafraid to speak the truth. While universities cower in the face of donors threatening to pull funding, and American-Israel PAC donations sway elected officials, part of the key is that Macklemore is an independent artist — his message isn’t dictated by a corporate label. “Hind’s Hall” rings out in defiance of wealth-imposed silence. This one line says it all: “The problem isn’t the protests; it’s what they’re protesting.” Ask yourself: How often does money shape the stories you hear, and those you don’t? Happy Halloween! More definition treats as we strive to understand the issues and facts as an informed electorate (and hopefully avoid the tricks). From Webster's: 1: government by the few 2: a government in which a small group exercises control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes 3: an organization under oligarchic control Often those individuals exercising power are not elected by the citizenry, but rather secure power and influence through money and property. Origins are Greek, but it has evolved through Latin and into French. According to Britannica, the most relatively recent historical examples are USSR/Russia and China.

No silly post about sales or marketing, stories from the field, or anything business related today. We are 23 years removed from the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Those of you old enough to remember that day, you undoubtedly remember where you were when you heard, read, or saw the news unfolding. Many of you might already know the story of “The Man in the Red Bandana”. I have attached the brief documentary ESPN did at the bottom of this post if you are unfamiliar. Quick recap. Welles Crowther was an equities trader that worked in tower two. On the day of the attack, Welles saved between 14-18 people in an act of heroism and self sacrifice that exemplifies the best of who we are. Welles escorted one group to safety before running back up 17 flights of stairs and finding another group. When we found that group he shouted to them a quote that I think is more relevant now than ever. He yelled “Everyone who can stand, stand now. If you can help others, do so”. Welles then escorted another group to safety and that could have been it. But, Welles Crowther was determined to save as many people as he could that day. He went back into tower 2 as it collapsed, ending his life. In this time of politicized bull shit, division, dissension, economic turmoil, and a general social anxst, I believe it’s important to remember his words… “Everyone who can stand, stand now. If you can help others, do so.” Perhaps instead of spending our time getting worked up about politics now is the time to make a real impact at home. Most of us won’t change the world but we have the opportunity to make a difference in our community. https://lnkd.in/g8ckYRTx
