First Half Review The first half would benefit from a tighter focus on establishing Yaskin's motivations and exploring the past and flashbacks of Prabhas and the entire world. Consider trimming down Prabhas' comedic and flight scenes in favor of more serious moments and deeper exploration. Additionally, the scenes with Disha Patani and Prabhas, particularly the complex song, could be revised or shortened. Cameos should be more developed and emotionally connected to the main narrative. Other scenes are disrupted by the insertion of Prabhas' fight sequences and comedic dialogues. Improving these fight scenes for better flow and impact would enhance the overall consistency of the film. While the CGI and VFX are impressive, Brahmastra, in my opinion, remains the gold standard for the best balance of visual effects in recent Indian cinema.

It saddens me deeply that the work of thousands of VFX artists, directors and technical artists is just completely dismissed and hidden behind these absurd "no CGI" claims that huge Hollywood blockbusters promote. Movies as we know them today (and I'm not talking about superhero movies with obvious CGI scenes) are filled with hundreds, if not thousands, of CGI shots that are completely invisible to the audience. Simple object removal from scenes, set extensions and digital doubles are essential for most directors to exercise their creative vision for visual story telling in today's digital world. It has freed the minds of thousands of creative directors, enabling them to create the most intricate worlds and characters, and yet people dismiss the pivotal role that VFX personnel play in the state of the art of visual story telling. I find this incredibly disrespectful and deeply immoral. VFX artists are already incredibly underpaid and overworked and now even the credits for their incredible hard work has been taken away from them. I highly recommend everybody to watch the incredible video series "No CGI is really just invisible CGI" from the YouTube channel TheMovieRabbitHole: https://lnkd.in/dB3_8hzr You'll be baffled by the amount of CGI that goes into all these "no CGI" movies.
A Hollywood actor claimed that no CGI was used in his movie project, but in reality, CGI was extensively employed throughout the film, including for scenes involving jets. A hallmark of good VFX work is that it is so seamless and realistic that the audience cannot distinguish between what is real and what is computer-generated—making the VFX truly invisible. How's this any different than a magician calling their craft "magic" with a straight face and keeping their tricks a secret? - Magicians are usually the craftsmen themselves and have spent years mastering the art: a performance that continues beyond their magic show into their ordinary lives. The mystery around their craft is essential in propelling their careers onwards. - Filmmakers rely on thousands of VFX craftsmen, who spent years mastering their art and spend significant time and effort on the film. They are even credited for their work and are celebrated in professional circles. Lying about the methods used in the making of their films is an insult not only for the crews that created these invisible effects, but to the audience itself. Worth noting that in some cases, action is shot practically (real cars in "Fast and Furious", real jets in "Top Gun") only to be replaced later by CGI. This is not because "these arrogant CG bros can't stomach the imperfections of reality", this is typically because filmmakers are so used to control every tiny aspect of their frame, that they themselves don't care that making a car flip the other way means completely replacing it with CGI... Finally, please take triggering supercuts like this with a grain of salt. There's always a chance that words are taken out of context, or that the filmmakers are addressing specific parts of their films other than the ones they're edited with. We are masters of illusion and manipulation, so let's not fall for our own tricks.

The first-ever use of Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) in film was in the sci-fi movie Westworld (1973). The film featured a scene where the audience sees through the eyes of a robot using a pixelated, computer-generated view of the world. It was the beginning of a revolution in visual effects, leading to the more complex CGI we see today in films like Avatar and The Avengers. Generally, rarely I talk about Movies : ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ begins with a gripping depiction of the aftermath of the Mahabharata war, when Lord Krishna cursed Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) with immortality. This sets the stage for a fictional narrative within a star-studded cinematic universe, deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. A story about the tenth avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is prophesied to arrive on a white horse, signaling the end of the Kali Yuga. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is undeniably a larger-than-life visual spectacle that transports viewers into a vividly imagined universe. In fact, the film’s visual quality is so high that it overshadows many of its obvious flaws by engaging the audience into the atmospherics of the make-believe world of Kasi and the Complex. Moreover, it's a concept that can spark imaginative experiences beyond the cinema. If you enjoy diving into a world of epic battles between gods, good, and evil, then 'Kalki 2898 AD' offers quite a satisfying audio-visual experience. #Indonordicassociation(dot)org Indo Nordic Strategic Association, India https://lnkd.in/dfpPyZKY

VFX is revolutionizing storytelling by enabling filmmakers to create visuals that were previously impossible, thus expanding the narrative possibilities. For instance, in 'Oti Uttam', VFX was pivotal in integrating historical footage with new scenes, creating a seamless narrative around a protagonist portrayed through pre-shot footage. This illustrates how VFX can bridge time, enhance realism, and open new dimensions in storytelling.
Let us talk about one of the most historically significant films of today - Oti Uttam. The first film in India who’s protagonist is made purely out of 24 minutes 48 seconds of pre-shot footage. The protagonist is non other than Uttam Kumar, a Man for whom a plethora of adjectives fall short. The captain of this ship was the national award winning director Srijit Mukherji and to bring his vision come to light, our Founder-Director Rajat Dalui spearheaded the entire VFX segment, which consisted the very core of this film. Countless days and nights went into finding the correct footage to be put into the correct scene and for matching of the dialogues.Rajat Dalui was present on set for every scene which had Uttam Kumar in it and 97% of them did. But that wasn’t the tempest, it came right after the shoot. The real challenge was the post-production after shoot. Uttam Kumar’s body double was played by Saranya Banerjee. His body had to be meticulously CG’d and replaced with an existing moving shots of Uttam Kumar to match the aspect ratio and dimensional attributes of the frames. All said and done, the film released in 2024-making space for itself within the history of Cinema and bringing us the satisfaction of a project we invested our sweat and tears into, coming to fruition. #OtiUttam #4DVFX #SrijitMukherji #CG #VFX #Movie #Edit
