The World Energy Outlook 2024 is out! Energy security is more critical than ever due to geopolitical conflicts... Can we reduce these risks? ☑ Yes—by building more efficient, cleaner energy systems that also address climate action. But are energy security and climate action really linked? Absolutely. Extreme weather is already threatening energy infrastructure worldwide. Clean energy transitions are picking up pace, but can we keep it going? The future is uncertain, and global strategies are still evolving. How fast will these transitions happen? Clean energy is entering the system like never before, but progress is uneven across countries and technologies. The good news! ☑The world has the capacity to move faster... ☑A resilient, people-centered sustainable energy system is within reach! Interesting read Seems like the path to a vision of #netzero is a bumpy path. I think we would all love the idea of a net zero world protecting the planet however I don’t think it will happen in my lifetime or possibly my children’s lifetime either. Who knows though where technology will take us in another 50-75 years and what impressive milestones will be achieved on this journey #renewableenergy #energy #decarbonisation #windenergy #renewables #business #innovation
The World Energy Council has published its annual World Energy Issues Monitor and revealed increasing uncertainty and extreme polarisation is impeding the path to net zero and beyond #netzero

Published today, BloombergNEF’s New Energy Outlook 2024 presents the long-term energy and climate scenarios for the transition to a low-carbon economy. The revised global Economic Transition Scenario now forecasts renewables accounting for 70% of electricity generation by 2050. Whilst the Net Zero Scenario, which targets global warming of 1.75 degrees celsius, will require an immediate peaking of emissions and fossil-fuel use across the global energy system – spanning the power, transport, industrial and buildings sectors. “On the energy supply side, for every dollar that goes to fossil fuels, an average of $3 needs to be invested in low-carbon energy over the remainder of the decade – up from parity today.” See below a graph for energy-related emissions and net-zero carbon budget, under the Economic Transition Scenario and Net Zero Scenario. Today we launched the latest version of research called Energy Transition Outlook 2024. Some of the highlights of this report:: 1. 2024 is likely the year of peak energy emissions, but the slow decline of post-peak emissions keeps key climate goals out of reach 2. Slow developments in hard-to-electrify sectors contrasts with rapid cost reduction and growth of PV and batteries 3. Highly competitive Chinese clean technology is speeding up the transition 4. National and economic security priorities dominate the international agenda and slow the transition 5. Market forces are necessary but insufficient; energy policy needs urgent alignment with climate goals You can download your own copy of the report and other ETO material, including data behind our forecast from the ETO website: https://lnkd.in/dbGYDuFU
