As we get further into the season, you may hear more about the MLB Players Association (MLBPA). So it's important to ask, what is the MLBPA? The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) is the labor union representing all current Major League Baseball players. All players, managers, coaches, and athletic trainers who hold or have held a signed contract with a Major League club are eligible for membership in the Association. The MLBPA consists of three sections: the labor union (for players and coaches), the Players Choice Group Licensing Program (handling commercial and licensing agreements), and the Major League Baseball Players Trust (a charitable foundation supporting youth baseball and various causes chosen by members). An important highlight is the Players Choice Group Licensing Program. This program safeguards members' likenesses, managing rights to names, numbers, nicknames, and signatures. Organizations seeking to use these features negotiate with the MLBPA for marketing and branding rights. Meanwhile, the MLB Players Trust funds community development and addresses specific issues in players' communities. Programs supported by the MLB Players Trust include Buses for Baseball to promote youth baseball, the Michael Weiner Scholarship assisting students with education costs, and the Players Choice Awards granting funds to charities chosen by award winners. Every single player gets a chance to hit the ball, run around the bases, and play the field. Before every game, “The Pledge of Allegiance” is recited and then the team sings “The Star Spangled Banner” which inspires the players. The American Softball Organization is dedicated to helping people reach their full potential; mentally, socially and physically. The Football Association - you need to do better if you're serious about protecting the grassroots game. In 2021 you released a new grassroots policy, one of the goals of this was to focus on retained volunteers. This policy runs into 2024. "Grassroots workforce: A transformation in community football by inspiring, supporting and retaining volunteers in the game" Like thousands of other grassroots coaches Im a volunteer and have been now for about 5 years. Northumberland Football Association have issued our team a fine for failing to play a fixture at the end of the season. Note: 1) We'd been in regular contact with the other team and were actively trying to rearrange the game - neither party was trying to skip the game 2) YOU decided to cram a load of fixtures into our calendar at the end of a season because YOU voted not to extend the season (even though most coaches wanted to) 3) My players (all kids - under 12) had played on the previous Sunday, Wednesday and Sunday (that's a LOT of competitive football for kids!). 4) We'd already juggled numerous non-football things around to accommodate the new fixtures which YOU did not consult with coaches on before issuing. Seemingly you think Parents, Players and Coaches have no other commitments? Im fortunate that my club has been very supportive. Ive heard from so many coaches who's experience with dealing with The FA at a local and national level is one of incredible frustration. You want to retain coaches? Dont issue fines for events outside of our control. You want to retain volunteers? Try talking to us and stop making rules by committee. All the coaches and volunteers I know do it for the kids and are superstars. You make our jobs harder, not easier Raise your game. if you wait for the perfect time to do something, you will probably never do anything... I live by a lot of these so-called "rules" that I've learned the hard way throughout my journeys. With Intentional Sports I knew we just had to get going, and although it was a massive leap of faith, I trusted that a bit of momentum would create support and change. If I was smarter or more experienced in the nonprofit world, I probably would have waited longer and tried to raise more funds before opening. Well, it's been about a year since we started our programs, and it feels like we're at a tipping point. We have about 2500 kids a week on our campus now, playing sports, getting homework done, receiving nutrition/hydration, learning leadership curriculum, and creating wellness habits. We can feel that we are starting to make a difference as our communities begin to depend upon this place. Everyone hears about the challenges happening in Chicago these days, with crime/violence/homelessness, and kids younger than ever getting in trouble with the law. Our stance isn't that sports can fix everything- but, if kids are here, than they are not out there. And here, they are learning life lessons, falling in love with a game, and experiencing the incredible power of PLAY. I love this video; Jason brought his friends over on Friday to surprise some of our baseball academy kids. It never gets old, watching kids interact with heroes. It's still a leap of faith, since all of this costs real money. But I believe- more than ever- in what we're doing. And I believe that some good Chicago brands, foundations, and philanthropists are going to come alongside this mission and help us change the future of Chicago.
