We are back at it with the 6th cycle of “Let’s Talk About It,” a 10-week group for folks who identify as Black men! It’ll start March 6th or 7th based on folks’ availability.This will be a dope space where we as Black men can be our authentic, uncensored, true selves, and be surrounded by other men who understand the complexities of navigating the world as Black men in America.(*** If you are homophobic, transphobic, or oppressive to any marginalized identities, this group is NOT for you!)Topics include: Unpacking Toxic Masculinity, trauma and the ways we respond, how we show up in relationships, police violence, self care, and so much more!The cost is only $50/wk for each individual (hopefully the community can come through and donate again so it’s free for everyone!) and there are sliding scale options for those who need it.*I will be making an ask for community donations/sponsorships soon!There is a max of 10 only people, so be sure to reserve your spot ASAP!E-mail me at marvintoliver@gmail.com for more information! Happy 35th Birthday... To me! I can hardly believe it and still honestly processing how I made it here, as I do every single birthday. I truly treat life as a gift, especially every single year that I get the privilege to see a new age because it's always worth marinating. As someone who has survived a multitude of things in this life, I am incredibly thankful to God for creating me to be me. For leading me along the way even when I completely gave up, and for sending me the right people to be in my corner. And most importantly for giving me the fire-filled purpose to help others thrive and stay alive. Here's my birthday wish for today, for my connections to help me achieve my goal so we can make a film that raises awareness and funding for the Chicago Children's Advocacy Center for project CAN HOPE. Chicago Advocacy Network for Hope, or CAN Hope, will be a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary, co-located center that provides services to adult survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault as well as human trafficking. CAN Hope is inspired by the Family Justice Center model, which provides the same kind of coordinated care as the CAC model for survivors of abuse, regardless of age, gender, or type of abuse. Of the 25 largest cities in the United States, 19 have opened a center where survivors and families can receive an array of services and support to promote their safety and well-being. You can help us take the reins! The culture of NW Hearts United is GROUNDED in the idea of deep mutual CONNECTION- our need for one another and paying that forward. For almost 10 years, we have consistently served an average of 400 hearts annually. Traditionally, youth have primarily been our focus but as one of the only equine-facilitated services nonprofit organizations in the area for all ages, our services for women, men, parents, veterans, and first responders have been increasingly sought after because they work when nothing else does. Currently, we are proud to report that we serve youth to adult clients at about 70/30%. Community partners, parents, schools, and veteran organizations are desperate to find partners with interventions that work at a cost their clients can afford, and thanks to community support, we are able to respond. We know we can do more, but we can't do it alonei. Our goal for 2025 is to support 200+ more participants.
