Halloween is almost here! Let’s make sure kids have a safe and fun time. 👫 Group Trick-or-Treating The more, the merrier, so make plans for kids to go with friends and adults this year. There’s safety in numbers, plus, it’s a great way for you to swap stories about how much fun trick-or-treating was “back in your day.” 😉 🎃 Teach “No” to Unsafe Treats We all love a good homemade treat, but explain to kids that they should only accept them from people you all know well. 🚪 Don’t Enter Homes or Cars Remind kids not to enter anyone’s house, even if they’re invited inside—no matter how nice someone seems. This goes for trunk-or-treating, too. 🌟 Stay on Well-Lit Streets Plan a familiar route in advance that has good lighting. It keeps everyone visible to drivers. And it’s so much easier to see all the creative costumes that way! A few quick reminders to little ones, and a quick candy check at the end, keeps their Halloween adventure as safe and fun as possible. And don’t forget, with recordable e-books and e-cards from Make Momentos, you can add a little extra treat to their Halloween—even if you’re not there in person.

As Halloween approaches, I’ve been reflecting on how it can sometimes create anxiety for little ones, (including my Milla) especially with all the spooky, scary elements. I know many children feel overwhelmed by the intensity of the holiday, and for some families the candy overload can be a lot. In our home, even though I’m not a huge fan of celebrating Halloween we focus on making it fun and positive experience as Milla loves being part of the celebration in community. We have embraced an open-ended, colorful costumes that spark imagination and creativity—without the fear factor. Costumes that allow kids to explore different characters or express themselves in unique ways can be just as exciting! If you’re also looking for a way to make Halloween more playful and less focused on candy, consider choosing healthier treat options to hand out, or even offering non-edible surprises like small toys or art supplies. Let’s create a joyful, inclusive holiday where all kids can feel safe, happy, and part of the fun! What are your thoughts on this?

Happy Halloween 🎃 👻 Keeping kids safe while trick or treating: Give kids a refresher on traffic safety 🛑 In the excitement of the holiday, even older kids may forget the traffic-safety rules they follow every day. Increase your child’s visibility 💡 Halloween costumes often feature dark colors, making kids harder to see at night. Choose a lighter-colored costume if possible, and pass out glow sticks or use reflective tape to ensure kids are visible to motorists. Encourage kids to stay together 👯♀️ Even if you will be accompanying your children, remind them to stick with your group at all times. For older kids who will be trick-or-treating without your supervision, the buddy system is essential. Make sure their phones are charged in case they become separated from their friends. 📱 Have kids stick to familiar, well-lit areas ✨ If you won’t be accompanying your older kids on Halloween night, discuss their route in advance and remind them to stay in your neighborhood. Reiterate that they should never enter a stranger’s house or accept a ride from someone they don’t know.
