As a co-founder of ZenSearch, I suspected I'd learn a lot. And I have. I've learned technical things, like understanding patterns in our analytics and how to define an SEO strategy. And I've learned about startup topics, like cap tables, vesting schedules, and pitch decks (although I haven't had the opportunity to put this knowledge into practice yet). But the most valuable thing I've learned is to become comfortable with imperfection. Initially, I wanted to delay releasing new features until things were "ready." Being personally and publicly associated with rough, exploratory designs and basic, clunky visuals made me extremely uncomfortable. I thought about other designers I know, friends, and former colleagues. I worried about people I don't know personally but who can see from my profile that I have years of UX experience. My work, my creation would be out there for everyone to see. I was afraid of being judged. What kept running through my mind was that people I worked with or even worse, people I managed, would see ZenSearch and think, "What happened to her? She used to be a good designer." It's not my fault for thinking that. Designers are instructed to be perfect, in fact, "pixel perfect." It's written in our job descriptions and embedded in the expectations of engineering colleagues. It's a lesson reinforced with every micro-interaction and design system component. And I was a great student. But what would happen if I was brave enough to let that go? With the strong encouragement of my co-founder, I took several deep calming breaths and embraced the messiness of building in public. Do I love it? No...but I don't hate it either. And as with every difficult thing, it gets easier and less scary with repetition. Using this approach has made me more nimble, and if I'm being honest, a better designer—by keeping me focused on the 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 features for our 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀, not the ones most precious to me. Sure, there are days I cringe at the flaws I see, but over time, most have been iterated into oblivion. So now, I invite you to judge it for yourself! 🚀 Enhancing Multi-Image Uploads on Groww's Ticket Raising Platform 🚀 I recently encountered a minor usability issue while using Groww’s ticket-raising platform. While attempting to attach multiple screenshots to describe an issue, I found that the platform only allowed one image upload at a time. This small limitation inspired me to explore the code. Allowing multi-image selection within the attachment component could significantly enhance the experience for users who need to provide multiple screenshots. Technical Solution 🛠️ Back-End Adjustments: -> The current API might be handling file uploads individually, which could lead to errors when multiple files are selected. By updating the API to accept an array of files within a single request, we can streamline the upload process, reduce server calls, and optimise the experience. -> The server-side code may have file limits or specific validation criteria. It’s essential to check and, if needed, adjust these settings to allow multiple files to be processed in one go. Front-End Adjustments: -> The current input field has the multiple attribute (<input accept="image/*, video/*, .pdf, .xls, .xlsx, .doc, .docx" multiple type="file" />), so it seems intended to handle multiple files. However, an error message appears when uploading multiple files, indicating a restriction. - > To fix this, update the validation logic within the front-end code to allow multiple files without triggering the "Please upload only required number of files" error. This feature would: - Save users' time and effort by allowing them to upload several images at once. - Enable more thorough issue reporting, assisting support in quicker problem diagnosis. - Improve overall user satisfaction, making the platform more user-friendly.
