How we made 19,900% profit on one single item. Step 1: have a product. In this case, generic Country Time Lemonade (Lazy Day Lemo-naid?). Approximate cost per cup: $.05. Step 2: set up shop at end of driveway. Don't advertise that you don't have permits. Step 3: have five-year-old sister write the sign. Mispell it to give it a child-like/folksy-charm. Share no profits with her. Step 4: dad feels bad, so he gives each family member a quarter to buy lemonade from you. Step 5: appreciate the family support, but express concern that no one else has purchased. Step 6: sit in cul-de-sac for six hours. Have dad reapply sunscreen. Resist dad's requests to come inside and relax. Step 7: neighbors across the street see you and feel bad. They come over with a $20 dollar bill for two glasses. You don't have change. They say it's OK. Step 8: bake brownies for neighbors the next day to thank them. --- It's been a while! The beginning of the school year can really take over, but we're back at it. Hope everyone is doing well. What are your beginning of the school year successes? #IntentionalDads #LemonadeRacket #Persistence

🎁🎁💐Ohio, please represent this holiday season: And I don't mean donning your OH- gear. I mean, buy from the business owners who live (and pay taxes) (and employ others) in YOUR state. And please shout out your own favorite local businesses in the comments (here or at the blog) because 1- that's the point and 2- I love to profile small businesses and their stories, so your mention may lead to an article for that local organization. #winwin #ohiosmallbusiness #shoplocal

Having to help my mother take groceries back on the bus from the one in Fields Corner is what I remember. Saving receipts from the one in Adams Corner to get dinnerware. How about that? It's all we could afford. We also knew that it was impolite to make fun of a kid on Free Lunch or the kid who had plastic coins back from a certain bakery in Fields Corner that gave you back "their" money when you paid with food stamps. So, back off on the gallows humor of where people shopped. It was all they had. Source link

I cleaned my house to save money. I cooked food at home to save money. I price-matched different grocery stores to save money. I never paid anyone to do anything for me, even though I was in a position to afford it. What I didn't realize was everything I did to save money took so much time and energy out of my life. Cleaning my house took 4 hours. Preparing meals took 4 hours. Price-matching and going to different grocery stores took 4 hours. One of my managers after seeing all this effort I was going through to save a few dollars told me "Leila, you spend 12 hours a week doing things to save money. If you took those 12 hours to close 3 more sales? You can pay people to do the rest of the work that is taking you 12 hours." When I listened to his advice and put all of my attention into making more money instead of saving pennies, I was able to buy back my time and make more money while doing it. agree?
