Fantastic stuff Melinda French Gates👌🏾👩🏽
I have full control over my resources now, and that feels fantastic,” says Melinda French Gates, who recently sat down with Vanity Fair to discuss her next era of philanthropic giving.
These days she sees her role, in large part, as a model to others with means: “I’m choosing to give this money away philanthropically, right? I’m not choosing to go put it on something else. I hope people see those bets and say, ‘I want to be part of that’ or ‘Oh, that’s possible’ or ‘Let me go do this in my own area.’”
Her work over the last few decades has brought her increasingly in contact with other women seeking to spread the literal and figurative wealth. Per Nielsen IQ, as of 2024, women control $31.8 trillion of worldwide expenditure and in the next five years will account for an estimated 75 percent of discretionary spending, which can include charitable giving.
Here, French Gates highlights six women with a range of interests and expertise, from Tsitsi Masiyiwasupporting disaster preparedness in Zimbabwe, to Sara Blakely mentoring entrepreneurs, to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie fostering literary talent. “I’ve worked with all of them in different ways,” French Gates says, “and they affect me and I affect them.”
Many of them are interested in interrogating and broadening the very meaning of philanthropy—“there’s something about that word that’s very weighted,” as Adichie puts it—and all are committed to working toward gender parity. “We are living in a world where all the products and things that we are consuming, using, and affecting our day-to-day lives have been mostly made and designed through the male perspective,” says Blakely. “I just would love to have that be more balanced.” —Keziah Weir

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with Tsitsi Masiyiwa, Karlie Kloss, Cari Tuna, Anne Wojcicki, Sara Blakely, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie—six women who are harnessing the power of philanthropy in remarkable ways. I’m thrilled that Vanity Fair is highlighting their important work, and I loved getting to share what I admire about each of these women.
Last week we launched our brand new ‘gal’ crop tops and as a small business, we are reliant on the generosity of our community for supporting us in ventures like this! We are working hard to eradicate gender inequality via multiple branches of our growing social enterprise:
The Egalitarian work tirelessly to deliver the Safe Place Project to our clients; people who are passionate about improving the safety of others, upholding intersectional feminist values and creating inclusive workplaces.
As the creators of Spike Report, our passionate team of volunteers monitor the UK’s only spiking database to give victims an empowering platform to report their experiences. From this, we have created our first campaign Spiking Out Justice In, which is lobbying the government to making spiking a standalone criminal offence.
We raise awareness of international social injustice via our social media platforms, to ensure that everyone is aware of current feminist challenges and giving our community opportunities to take action on causes that they are passionate about. The Egalitarian blog features a number of wonderful contributors, and our editors support them in creating their pieces; empowering future journalists!
Lastly, we have The Egalitarian events, which are inclusive and safe places for people to come together. So far we have seen dj nights, parties, balls, sip n writes and there is so much more to come!
As a small business with so many ideas about how we can change the world, we need your support so that we can keep growing as a business, as volunteers and one day as full-time paid staff. Please take a look at our crop tops below and consider buying one!

In October this year, we were honoured to support LAND-GRAZIEN, an organisation providing support for women and children who have experienced violence.
According to Statista, in 2024, nearly every day a woman or girl was killed because of her gender. A UN study shows this trend is on the rise! 🚨
This makes the work of organisations like Landgrazien even more crucial. They are dedicated to ensuring that all women and children, regardless of nationality, religion, or social status, can live in a society free from violence. 🙌
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀 🤝
Landgrazien stands on three key pillars:
- 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: The belief that everyone possesses an inner strength, which needs to be rediscovered. Landgrazien supports women in reclaiming this strength and standing up for their needs.
- 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: True empowerment comes from the individual’s willingness to discover their own needs. Landgrazien helps women recognise what they truly need
-𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂: Offering guidance, being trustworthy allies, and helping women rediscover their inner strength.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples' Day and an opportunity for organizations to reflect on how they can meaningfully honor and support Indigenous communities. Here are some impactful ways companies can celebrate this important day:
•𝗔𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱: Start meetings by recognizing the traditional Indigenous territories on which your offices are located.
•𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀-𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀: Partner with or promote Indigenous entrepreneurs and companies.
•𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲: Provide resources and workshops on Indigenous history, culture, and contemporary issues.
•𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀: Consider donating to or volunteering with Indigenous-led organizations.
•𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Showcase Indigenous artists and cultural expressions in your workplace.
At Kindall Evolve, we believe honoring Indigenous peoples goes beyond a single day. It's about fostering a workplace culture that respects, includes, and uplifts Indigenous voices year-round.

In a compelling announcement, Melinda French Gates shared her plan to donate $1B through Pivotal Ventures over the next two years to fund work that advances gender equity in the U.S. and abroad. Melinda's plan includes major grants to critical organizations working to protect #womensrights and advance their power and influence, including an emerging focus on #reproductiverights and #birthequity - spaces that are close to our hearts at Afton Bloom.
In addition, Pivotal Ventures is taking an exciting and novel approach to grant-making that provides 12 global leaders with $20M each to distribute as they see fit. At Afton Bloom, we are always excited to see new approaches to philanthropy and we are thrilled that this will put more dollars in the hands of diverse issue area experts and leaders.
We are particularly excited that our brilliant partner Dr Alfiee Breland-Noble is one of the selected leaders. Dr Alfiee Breland-Noble is a visionary advocate for the #mentalhealth needs of youth of color through through her non-profit, The AAKOMA Project, Inc. Her bold approach combines research, resource dissemination, and storytelling to pave the way for systemic change in care delivery.
We cannot wait to see how Dr Alfiee Breland-Noble and the other selected organizations and leaders advance #genderequity in the U.S. and globally at this critical time.

It’s International Day of the Girl today! 👧🏾👧🏼👧🏽
Did you know that at current rates, a girl born today...
🟠 will have to wait until her 97th birthday to celebrate an equal society
💍 she will be 68 years old before child marriage ends
💪 and 137 years old - way beyond her expected lifespan - before extreme poverty in women and girls is eradicated
These numbers show us how far we still have to go, but they also remind us that we need to accelerate progress by continuing to invest in women and girls to break the cycle of inequality.
💌 Make a donation from Oct 10-17 and have your contribution (up to £5,000) DOUBLED by Big Give, enabling us to continue to increase our impact supporting women and girls. 🔗 Donation: https://lnkd.in/eUAnZBMT
Let’s take action towards creating a world where every girls potential is unleashed, and let’s make sure it happens sooner!
