Happy National Bourbon Day Y'all! The saying goes "all bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskies are bourbon". While whisky is distilled throughout the world, bourbon is only made in the USA, mainly Kentucky. It's mash (the grain mix used in distillation) must contain a minimum of 51% and no more than 79% Indian corn. Finally, it must age for at least 2 years in a new, charred American white oak barrel. This process is crucial in adding Bourbon's colour and distinctive flavour. We see many wonderful bottles in our spirits auction and June is no exception. Lot 18 - George T Stagg Limited Edition Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon The George T. Stagg Barrel Proof - 2020 Release is a limited edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, distilled in the spring of 2005 and bottled in 2020 after 15 years of aging. As part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, this whiskey is uncut and unfiltered, with a high alcohol content of 65.2% ABV. The 2020 release was aged in new white oak barrels with a #4 char, charred for 55 seconds, and sourced from Warehouses L, K, & Q. This release is presented in a 750 ml bottle and is a distillery bottling categorized as Bourbon. #irongateauction #canadaspiritsauction #spiritscollection #bourbon #finespirits #georgetstagg #buffalotrace #americanwhiskey #finespiritsareworthit Reposted from Iron Gate - Wine and Spirits

🥃 As #WhiskyWorthKnowingMonth continues, let’s dive into the rich history and craftsmanship behind Scotch whisky — one of the world’s most revered spirits. 🥃 Scotch whisky must be made in Scotland and aged for at least three years in oak casks. It comes in two primary types: Single Malt and Blended Malt. - Single Malt Scotch is made from 100% malted barley at a single distillery. It’s known for its depth of flavor and complexity, often reflecting the unique characteristics of its region. - Blended Malt Scotch is a mix of single malts from different distilleries, allowing blenders to create balanced, consistent flavors by combining the best qualities of each malt. One iconic example of a Single Malt Scotch is the Macallan 18. This exceptional whisky is aged in sherry-seasoned oak casks, giving it a rich, full-bodied character. On the nose, you’ll find an inviting bouquet of dried fruits, ginger, and vanilla, with hints of cinnamon and clove. The palate is luxuriously smooth, with layers of rich oak, dark chocolate, and sweet toffee, balanced by subtle notes of dried citrus and spice. The finish is long and warm, with lingering flavors of oak and sweet spice. Whether you’re a fan of single malts or blended malts, there’s something truly special about Scotch whisky. This month, take a moment to appreciate the tradition, history, and exquisite flavors that go into every bottle. WHAT DOES BOURBON TASTE LIKE? Bourbon is a distinctive type of American whiskey that has its own unique flavor profile, making it highly sought-after by connoisseurs and casual whiskey lovers alike. Here’s what bourbon to uncover the flavours that make it so special. 1️⃣ Bourbon, made from at least 51% corn, has a naturally sweet, full-bodied flavor with a rich, creamy texture and subtle sweetness. 2️⃣ During fermentation, esters develop, adding fruity notes like banana and citrus. These subtle flavours add complexity and a refreshing brightness to the whiskey, enhancing its overall profile. 3️⃣ Bourbon is distilled to a lower proof, preserving more of the grain's natural flavors, resulting in a rich, robust character and full-bodied mouthfeel. 4️⃣ Bourbon is aged in new charred oak barrels, imparting flavors of vanilla, toasted oak, and spice. The caramelized wood sugars give it signature notes of vanilla, sweetness, and a warm, spicy finish. What’s your favourite way to enjoy bourbon? In the world of spirits, innovation and tradition blend to create unique flavors and experiences. One good way to get a super finishis for Single Malt whisky or Rhum is to use wooden barrels that previously matured Californian Brandy for a few years years. Californian Brandy, with its deep roots in the state’s wine culture, imparts rich, fruity, and complex notes to the spirit. The wooden barrels used in aging Californian Brandy are seasoned with nuanced flavors. When whisky or rhum is finished in these barrels, it absorbs additional layers of sweetness, spice, and depth. Three or four years of brandy maturation is the sweet spot. It ensures that the barrels are rich with flavor compounds but not overly dominant, allowing a harmonious infusion. The result is a spirit with a distinct character. You will get hints of dried fruits, vanilla, and a touch of oak, creating a smooth and sophisticated finish. A couple of containers have just landed at our cooperage in sunny France. we can dispatch small quantities immediately. barrels are very moist. patrice@artandcask.com www.artandcask.com #CalifornianBrandy #Whisky #Rhum #BarrelAging

Should you add water to your whisky? While many people gravitate towards drinking whiskey neat, as it’s widely done by a lot of whiskey lovers, adding a few drops of water to whiskey can help enhance its aromas and flavours. Here’s why professional tasters add water to their whisky: 1️⃣ Adding a small amount of water to whisky can help avoid palate fatigue, especially important for those who plan to taste multiple whiskies in one sitting. This is because water can dilate the flavors, making it easier for your taste buds to reset between tastings. 2️⃣ A few drops of water can reveal more aromas in the whisky. No, you don’t need to add an entire glass of water, that would take away the beauty of the whiskey. However, a few drops would work just great! How do you drink your whiskey? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers 🥂 #sonalholland #masterofwine #whiskytips #whiskytasting #whiskylovers #whiskey
