Indoor rock climbing --> #voiceover lessons?!? Yes!
As mentioned in a previous post, I recently went indoor rock climbing with the family. In addition to having a great time, I came away with some lessons, most of which are applicable to voiceover as well as rock climbing. Here's #6 in that series:
🔵 Observe others to learn.
There were several times when I struggled with a particular obstacle that I could just step back and watch someone else take a turn. And I could see very quickly a better plan for clearing that obstacle. (Or sometimes, a worse plan.) Sometimes the trick was to do something I'm not capable of doing, (like that Spider-Man imitation that one dude on the cave ceiling was doing....) so I'd have to move on to the next thing.
Voiceover can be the exactly the same. While it's no substitute for good training, you can learn a lot by just seeing what other voiceover artists are doing in this industry. Keep your eyes open!
(Just make sure you're watching the ones getting good results, like reaching the top of the climbing wall, not the ones that are constantly falling off!)
