Utilising Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) for the assessment of lips prior to tissue filler injections can offer significant insights into the unique anatomical considerations of patients, thereby informing and enhancing treatment strategies. Typically, labial arteries are located submucosally or within the orbicularis oris muscle. However, in exceptional cases, these vessels may be situated subcutaneously. Given that these vessels are usually positioned deeper within the tissues, the prevailing safe practice advocates for superficial injections in the subdermal area to minimise the risk of intravascular injections. By identifying patients with superficial vascular structures through POCUS before proceeding with injections, clinicians can make informed decisions to either avoid superficial injections altogether or opt for a blunt cannula, thus enhancing patient safety and treatment efficacy. #clarius #pocus #aestheticmedicine #lipfiller #hyaluronicacid

👋 Solution to previous post: 🫀 This patient with d-TGA had a history of Mustard procedure during childhood. Unlike the Senning, which uses the patient’s own tissue, the Mustard operation constructs the baffle with a patch 🧩 (often made from prosthetic material or glutaraldehyde-treated pericardium). This material is more prone to calcification over time 🪨, leading to baffle stenosis. 📉 In this case, echocardiography revealed loss of laminar flow. Fluoroscopy showed heavily calcified baffles, and a gradient of 3 mmHg was measured between the SVC/IVC and left atrium.
