How do you upskill and keep your knowledge relevant when working as an independent consultant? Answer: Proactively seek out events that are aligned with your development. In that spirit, last night I took myself along to the Next Big Thing's AI Powered Marketing event. The rise of AI happened when I was on maternity leave during 2023. Now that I'm running my own consultancy, I've been keen to explore its potential and understand how people are using it in real world contexts. Here are my three takeaways from the evening. 1. Don't take AI's first answer: I have to concede that in using AI recently I've been a little underwhelmed by the responses its given me. They've been a bit basic. Turns out that's on me. If you don't give it enough detail in your question then it returns pretty generic responses. Which leads me nicely on to... 2. Prompt it properly: To get the most out of AI you need to provide it with clear instructions and set the parameters for how you want its support. This guidance helps it return a more useful response. And to do that it needs context to your request. So.... 3. Feed your prompt with examples: Upload documents which provide that additional detail and enhance your query with more nuance that the AI can respond to. And bonus, the event was held at Google, so I got to check out a former competitor's offices! Just returned from #MAICON24, and my biggest takeaways is that AI will disrupt even faster than I thought - and I already thought it was moving at light speed. They covered: 1. The Future of AI in Marketing - Paul Roetzer's session "The Road to AGI" outlined the timeline for AI advancements, including the emergence of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) by 2030(!). It's coming fast. 2. Strategies for Successful AI Adoption - Lisa (Berkley) Gately from Forrester Research presented the GenAI Marketing Adoption Framework, emphasizing the importance of setting clear goals, investing in AI expertise, and creating responsible execution playbooks. 3. Leveraging AI-Powered Automations - Keith Moehring demonstrated how tools like Make.com can automate repetitive tasks, boosting efficiency and providing valuable insights. This session was super actionable! 4. The Importance of Cultural Intelligence - Andrew Au proved that successful AI adoption depends on human factors like effective communication and leadership support. 5. AI Literacy and Training - Jessica Hreha from Jasper stressed the need for LEADERS to actively engage with AI tools and invest in team development. 6.
