The #HIV community has saved millions of lives globally, yet the movement risks leaving those people behind if it quickly doesn't change course and take a person-centered approach. By 2035, nearly three-quarters of the 40 million people living with HIV worldwide will be living with one or more chronic diseases, also referred to as noncommunicable diseases (#NCDs). Without urgent action, the HIV community is lagging behind its member state target to ensure that 90% of people living with HIV will have access to NCD and mental health care by 2025. A person-centered care approach is key to addressing these complex health needs effectively and cost-efficently. Read more about how this holistic strategy can transform lives and drive progress against HIV. #HIVCare #PersonCenteredCare #ChronicDisease #HealthcareInnovation #HealthPolicy #AIDS2024

A good entry point towards integrated person centered care. It requires to revisit ,and reorientation of the health system blocks especially strengthening multidisciplinary team at PHC level.
Many people with NCDs also have #HIV. They are treated for HIV while their NCDs remain undiagnosed. In #Kenya, significant strides in the #HIV response have lead to reductions in prevalence and mortality rates. With greater access to HIV #testing services and optimized HIV #treatment regimens, people living with HIV are living longer an as they age, they face increased risk of developing #noncommunicablediseases like #diabetes, #hypertension, and other #cardiovasculardiseases. They are also more likely to experience #mentalhealth conditions. Integrated person-centered delivery models offer an efficient solution that facilitates high-quality, holistic health care, while also addressing service access and utilization barriers. PATH has been advancing integrated HIV-#NCD delivery models across #Africa and #Asia, ranging from providing NCD screening and referrals to equipping community health workers to conduct household-based HIV-NCD screening and offering NCD screening, diagnosis, and care services at private and/or community-based one-stop shop clinics. Doctoral Candidate, Katie McCormick, MSW, and University of Houston colleagues recently published a mixed methods study to understand how #HIV clinics in the South are implementing #harmreduction into their practice to address the concurrent HIV and #opioid epidemics. Key Takeaways: (1) Southern HIV orgs expend significant effort in conducting outreach activities because Southern communities are generally unaware of harm reduction (2) HIV orgs continually advocate for harm reduction amid a challenging socio-political context, and (3) HIV orgs offer fewer harm reduction services and integrate harm reduction into their organizational infrastructure to a lesser extent due to external, contextual factors. Southern HIV orgs are opportune sites for the adoption and implementation of harm reduction to respond to the #opioidepidemic. The implementation context markedly impacts if, how, and what components of harm reduction philosophy and approaches are implemented. This paper outlines implications for policy advocacy, funding, and capacity-building efforts for implementing harm reduction in Southern HIV clinics.

From NPR: More than half of the people living with #HIV in the United States are 50 or older. Researchers estimate that 70% of people living with the virus will fall in that age range by 2030. Aging with HIV means an increased risk of other health problems, such as diabetes, depression, and heart disease, and a greater chance of developing these conditions at a younger age. (#HIVandNCDs). The US health care system isn’t prepared to handle the needs of the more than half a million people with HIV who 50+, according to advocates, doctors, government officials, researchers, and people living with #HIV. https://lnkd.in/eNN2VzzK
