Why Do Slips Happen? It’s Science, Not Just “Bad Luck” Slip accidents are often chalked up to carelessness, but the truth is that many factors, measurable by science, determine how safe—or risky—a surface is. One critical factor? Surface friction, which we measure using the Pendulum Test Value (PTV). Here’s why it matters: 🔹 PTV 36+ is the gold standard for safety, meaning a 1 in 1,000,000 slip risk. 🔹 PTV below 24? That risk jumps dramatically to about 1 in 20. The difference between these numbers isn’t trivial: it’s the line between a safe environment and a potential injury. The next time you walk across a seemingly harmless surface, remember that slip safety is a science—and managing it is about understanding friction, testing surfaces, and taking proactive measures. Is your workplace meeting the standard? It’s a question of prevention, not just response. --------- ✍️ Thoughts?
