𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠❓ On December 12, Big Rigs Newspaper posted a story about Greg Davies— a truckie who was fined $580 and reprimanded by compliance officers at the Marulan weighbridge in NSW for forgetting to record the date in his logbook. Greg Davies was with his wife, who had recently suffered a heart attack. He forgot to record the date because of that stress. Despite his clean record, the officers showed no leniency, issuing a hefty fine and treating him with hostility. This prompted several truck drivers to comment and point out that this attitude from the authorities is why many young drivers are discouraged and old drivers quit their jobs. Check out the comment obtained from Big Rigs' blog What are your thoughts on this? 🤔 👇 #TruckDriving #TruckingIndustry #YoungDrivers #RoadTransport #DriverShortage #Truckies #BigRigs #LogbookCompliance #RoadSafety #HeavyVehicle #TransportChallenges #NSWTransport #TruckieStories #DriverRetention #FleetManagement
It's sad to see good Drivers feeling betrayed by the system. While the case of Greg Davies is unfortunate and exorbitant fines should be replaced with education, things like this can easily be prevented by using a digital log book, as many others have commented on the original post.
