Insight on bidding and competitive tendering from our principal consultant Larry A.! Larry's approach to reflection and lifelong learning is certainly providing us with many opportunities to learn and improve as a company. Keep it up!
Friday Reflective Moment: Growth in Action As this week comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experience of working with my team mates at MAIAR Ltd to submit an important bid. It was a challenging but rewarding process, not just because we tackled the bid together, but because we all grew along the way – myself included. For me, this week was a crash course in new skills. Learning how to write a bid and understanding the various aspects that contribute to its success was an eye-opener (as my previous experiences have been part of an established bid team as part of technical authoring team). From structuring the proposal to ensuring compliance with requirements, I was pushed to think critically and adapt quickly. But I didn’t do it alone – the support from my team was invaluable, as we shared knowledge and built on each other’s strengths. What I learned most was the power of collaboration and resilience. Stepping out of my comfort zone was daunting, but seeing how our collective effort turned challenges into opportunities was empowering. It reminded me that growth doesn’t happen in isolation – it happens when you’re part of a team that believes in learning together. At MAIAR Ltd, it’s not just about delivering the perfect bid – it’s about developing the skills and relationships that make success possible. Proud of the journey we’ve been on this week, and excited for what’s next! How has your week been? #FridayReflections #Teamwork #GrowthMindset #BidWriting #LearningTogether #MAIAR #Collaboration

If I could go back in time, this is one thing I’d tell myself: Patience is everything. Last week, I started my virtual assistant training with ALX Africa. We kicked things off with an online welcome ceremony called the Karibu ceremony, where we were reminded that this journey isn't just about speed but about growth. Honestly, I’ve always been the type to want results fast. If things weren’t happening right away, I’d feel like I was doing something wrong. But one thing I’ve learned from this course so far is the value of patience. I also realized that being patient with myself is part of the journey. We live in a world where instant results are glorified, but true success comes from trusting the process and giving things time to unfold. As I step into week two, I’m keeping that lesson close. I’ll keep sharing what I’m learning, and hopefully, it’ll remind you too that good things take time. So let’s keep pushing, but with a little more patience, knowing that every step counts. #diaryofavirtualassitant #virtualassistant #socialmediamanager

Just read this in "Toyota Kata" ...the following may be difficult for many of us to accept and adopt, but it is one key to effectively utilizing our improvement capability: only work on what you need to work on. As people make suggestions for what to do, a reasonable question to ask is: “Do we expect this particular action to help us move toward the current target condition at this process?” If the action does not relate to a target condition, then it may be a good idea to stop spending time and resources on that action for now... 🤔

Yesterday, I attended the opening and launch of a workshop in Tonga. It was disheartening to witness a large number of attendees arriving extremely late, with no signs of apology, confidently grabbing seats during speeches by the Minister and other guests. Some arrived as much as 40 minutes after the event began. This got me thinking: when we represent Tonga abroad at international meetings, do we exhibit the same tardiness? Would we find it acceptable if others attended our meetings this late? Respect for punctuality is crucial, whether it's a small internal meeting or a significant international gathering. Being consistently on time demonstrates professionalism and respect for others' time. What steps can we take to cultivate a culture of punctuality? How can we ensure that we uphold the same standards of timeliness at home as we do abroad or when hosted by esteemed colleagues? Let's discuss and work towards ensuring that we represent the best of Tonga, starting with something as fundamental as showing up on time.

One of my good friends, a young professional, asked me whilst we were having lunch, "Emmanuel, what's your opinion? Should I remain a lecturer all my life, or move on and do something else, something different but in line with what I am qualified to do?" I am humbled whenever some professionals seek my opinions or advice. Well, the first question I asked him was, "What are you passionate about? Follow your heart, your capabilities and what you love doing." We have to be passionate about what we do, so that we do it well, do it right, and do it wholeheartedly - genuine service. If we do something just because the type of job seems quite technical, profound and carries a good title, hoping to be recognised by the public, then we might not enjoy our job. Firstly, is it what we are passionate about, or do we just want recognition, attention and fame? If it is just to get "bek nem (big name)" as we say in Tok Pisin, then we may end up being stressed, worn out and burned out always, trying to meet deadlines, and juggle multiple tasks.

This is it! To be authentic is to be fed-up enough to do some deep inner work to find your purpose and living your life in alignment with it. No amount of personal branding can make you authentic. It has to start inward. You have to dare to go through life's humiliation ritual and endure the cringe and rejection that comes with stepping into your purpose. It's about first facing the entirety of who you are (probably the most painful and scariest thing you'll ever do), embracing it and then evolving it.
