During my recent trip to Dubai for #ATM, I decided to try a different approach to booking my hotel. Instead of locking in a reservation weeks in advance, as I normally do for large trade shows, I kept a close eye on prices to see if I could score a last minute deal. The ‘#RevenueManager’ in me expected that there would be some hotels that have over forecasted demand for the show and would end up slashing their rates closer to the event date. My instinct proved to be right and a few hours before my flight, I secured a hotel room for $100 – a significant drop from the $300-400 price tag I'd seen earlier. The hotel itself was a unique loft-style property. On the ground level, there was a small living area, kitchenette, and balcony. A short flight of stairs led to a bed on an upper level. This setup brought back childhood memories of bunk beds and added a sense of excitement to the stay. Overall, this unique stay was well worth the money and a steal deal considering Arabian Travel Market is one of the largest events in Dubai. However, this last minute strategy comes with a caveat. If you have your heart set on a specific hotel, it's best to book in advance, as prices may rise closer to your arrival date. But if you're flexible and open to various options, waiting until the last minute can sometimes yield great deals. Since I had a fixed budget but was quite flexible with where I stayed, this worked for me but I probably wouldn’t do it when planning a holiday or traveling with family. I prefer the peace of mind. What about you? Have you ever taken a chance and booked a hotel super last minute? How did it turn out?
