5 for the Future: Building a Stronger Muscatine County! Did you know that over $331 million is expected to be transferred from Muscatine County estates in the next 10 years? Thanks to the new "5 for the Future" initiative by Iowa Community Foundations, a portion of those funds could be reinvested right here in our community! What is 5 for the Future? It's a program that encourages individuals to donate just 5% of their estates to their local community foundation. In Muscatine County's case, 5% of that $331 million translates to over $16.5 million! Planned legacy giving can help protect, grow, and spread resources that may otherwise lose roots. We strive to make a positive, enduring impact for the people and communities where we live and operate. Last year, we donated $2 million to local nonprofits through our Community Grants Program, funded 3.1 million meals through our partnership with hunger relief organization CoreGiving, and continued to foster an inclusive workplace for our team members. Check out this in-depth analysis of the generosity ecosystem to help understand the decline in giving.
Today we are excited to release our in-depth analysis of the generosity ecosystem. "The Shifting Landscape of American Generosity" summarizes what we currently know about the decline in giving and volunteering rates and the reasons potentially contributing to this decline. As we delve into these trends, we also recognize the potential for reduced charitable resources for nonprofits, posing new challenges. Stay tuned for our full report in September, which offers recommendations to address the declines in giving and volunteering rates. https://lnkd.in/gPpy5S_K

What do we know abt the extent of the declines in giving & volunteering rates to nonprofits? About their consequences and causes? And what do we know about those declines in relation to other expressions of generosity, outside of formal charitable nonprofits? In a new "landscape analysis" just released by The Generosity Commission, I take these questions on. I don't think it's a spoiler to quote here from what i guess is the peroration: "This is a moment to get our bearings, to take stock of the landscape. We are aware that it is changing, even as we recognize its established landmarks. We intuit that some of the changes are likely permanent, while others are reversible. Some we acknowledge as the product of broader social transformations which seem beyond our immediate control, while others we know are the products of decisions we have made and attitudes we have developed that are within our power to change or to reinforce, if we mobilize to do so. We welcome some of the changes as salutary adaptations—to technological advances or to socioeconomic conditions—while we acknowledge that other changes will likely mean reduced charitable resources making their way to nonprofits across the country, with deleterious consequences for those they serve. So, we inhabit this shifting landscape of generosity with some apprehension at its transformed terrain, with resolve to cultivate it purposefully where we can, and with excitement about how it will continue to develop in the coming years. If this moment represents in any respect a crisis of generosity, then it is one that we can approach with resolve, and even with wonder, at the opportunities that lie ahead." The landscape analysis is a teaser in a sense for The Generosity Commission's final report, which will be coming out in September, taking these issues on, and more.

Much ink is being spilled in the non-profit press over how to ameliorate persistent wealth disparities and promote more equitable power sharing in the US, with calls for more aggressive philanthropic giving offered as a partial means for making short term progress. While we agree on the need to rapidly ramp philanthropic giving up and draw endowments down, an essential element towards a long term solution must involve voting and unleashing the latent voting power of recipients of non-profit services. That is why we are so pleased to partner with Nonprofit VOTE based here in Cambridge, MA, in support of their mission to “equip our nation’s nonprofits with nonpartisan tools and resources to help the communities they serve participate in voting and democracy.” Their “Seven Reasons to Do Voter Registration" (https://lnkd.in/eqaTzKNP) offer a compelling argument in support of the multiple positive outcomes stemming from our investment in wider democratic participation. www.nonprofitvote.org

💰 Did you know that Idaho nonprofit organizations reported $9.71 billion in revenue on their most recent tax filings? (Source: ProPublica). It’s that time, y’all—#GivingTuesday has arrived, the nonprofit world’s rebuttal to the consumerist nightmare of Black Friday. While Giving Tuesday is recognized globally, for me, it symbolizes the profound impact of grassroots community support—the belief that, together, we can effect real, lasting change. Big Big Table Community Café is proof of this power. In a world that prioritizes profit over people, spaces like ours are rare—when they should be the norm. Food insecurity exists not because of scarcity, but because of systemic inequities. At BBT, we are committed to fostering a space where mutual aid and community care take precedence over market logic. Because EVERYONE deserves a seat at the table. Community work is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain. If you are willing and able, please consider supporting Big Big Table today. This is about more than charity—it’s about solidarity, dignity, and justice. Learn more and donate here: https://lnkd.in/emMCXqks In a city that claims to be full of good neighbors, choose to be one not just today, but every day. And remember… it’s better to give than to receive—especially when it’s tax deductible ;) #GivingTuesday #FoodJustice #CommunityCare #SolidarityNotCharity #BuffaloNY #NonprofitImpact #PayItForward #EverybodyEats #MutualAid #DignityForAll #SupportLocalNonprofits #EndFoodInsecurity #BuffaloNY #SocialJustice #BuildingCommunity

This month, Beacon Hill's San Francisco Tech team did ab "Adopt a Family" for their community service initiative. The "Adopt a Family" program is a charitable initiative typically run by community organizations, nonprofits, or social service agencies during the holiday season, especially in December. The goal is to provide holiday gifts, meals, and other essentials to families in need. #ExpertsAtWork #EmployingTheFuture #GoHire
