EXPO REAL (Messe München) 2024 is fast approaching! Among many exciting events, we’ll be participating in the panel discussion “City for People: How to Improve Quality of Life in Urban Spaces,” organized by Invest in Lodz (Central Poland). As media patrons of the event, we are thrilled to announce that the discussion will be moderated by none other than Anna Korólczyk-Lewandowska! The panelists include Jacek Jaśkowiak, president of Poznań; Adam Pustelnik, deputy mayor of Łódź; Maciej Fijalkowski, Director of the European Funds and Economic Development Department at the City of Warsaw; and Dr. Michał Sobczak, representative of Łódzka Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna. The discussion will center on exchanging insights on building livable cities. Leaders from Poland's major cities will tackle challenges in urban space management and highlight successful revitalization initiatives. This year, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Scientific Symposium will take place in Ouro Preto, one of my favorite cities and the first city in Brazil designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Are you coming? For this year's edition, the Symposium will explore the theme “Revisiting the Venice Charter: Critical Perspectives and Contemporary Challenges”, aiming at thoroughly re-examining the Charter in the light of contemporary challenges, focusing on five key sub-themes: 1. Historical Context and Heritage Concepts 2. A Cross-Cutting Approach Between Conventions 3. Universalism and diversity: Rereading the Doctrinal Documents from Diverse Perspectives 4. Contemporary Challenges in Heritage Discourse 5. Disaster and Conflict Resilient Heritage And thanks to the hybrid format of the event, remote participation in all meetings will be possible. We invite you to take an interesting walk around Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów, on April 26th (4:30 - 6 p.m): HISTORIC GARDENS AT THE THRESHOLD OF THE NEW CENTURIES: SANCTUARIES OF TRADITION OR EXPERIMENTAL FIELDS OF EXPLORATION? The beauty of historic gardens is the result of generations of work, united in their concern for the uniqueness of a place. However, an essential condition for the survival of even the most beautiful corners is their usefulness. Adapting to the needs of modern users forces a renegotiation of tradition. Should we choose historical plant species or those whose bloom lasts longer to please the eyes of walkers? Is it always the oldest that is most valuable? Should there be sporting opportunities in every park? We will look for answers to these challenging questions together on a walk through Wilanów's historic gardens.
