I just posted this new reel to my Instagram - learn more about the importance of mitral valve prolapse! What is Mitral Valve Prolapse, why is it important to understand, and what can you do about it? Dr. Lara Oboler, a Board-Certified Cardiologist in New York City, answers these common cardiac health questions from patients. Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP) occurs when the mitral valve doesn’t close properly, leading to blood flow issues between the heart’s atrium and ventricle. Understanding this cardiac condition is key for your health. An EKG can help diagnose MVP. If you’re concerned that you may have Mital Valve Prolapse, you should talk to your cardiologist. Maintaining heart health is essential for a healthy lifestyle! Do you have a question you want to have answered by Doctor Oboler, MD in a future reel? It's likely that much of your patient population can use standard upper arm blood pressure cuffs, which are designed to fit cylindrical arms. However, obese and muscular patients may have more conical arms, and standard cuffs may be too small or otherwise fit poorly, resulting in falsely elevated blood pressure values and even small errors in blood pressure values have the potential for long-term effects. Blood pressure guidelines from the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association (AHA) emphasize the importance of proper techniques for measuring blood pressure, including using a correctly sized cuff that encircles 80% of the arm. In this #ClinicalView article you will find insights on diversifying your cuff inventory and to avoid the risk of misdiagnoses and poor health outcomes.

ECG or EKG records the electrical signals from the heart. ECG is a non-invasive test that can detect abnormalities including arrhythmias, evidence of coronary heart disease, left ventricular hypertrophy and bundle branch blocks. Stress ECG and Resting ECG are two distinct medical procedures used to assess heart health. #cardiology #heart #health #Medicare #ECG

Ahead of World Heart Day 2024, Dr Robert Smith, consultant interventional cardiologist at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, discusses innovative minimally invasive procedures to repair tricuspid valve regurgitation. Tricuspid valve regurgitation occurs when the tricuspid valve leaks, causing symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue, and swelling of the ankles and legs. It’s thought to affect up to 5% of the population aged over 75. "At our hospitals there are two new types of low-risk non-surgical intervention available. The first is transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) where a clip is used to reduce the leak. The second is transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR), a newer procedure where the valve is replaced and the leak is obliterated," Dr Smith explains.
